João Roque is from Lisbon, Portugal. He is a Social and Organizational Psychologist with environmental concerns and also on organizational stress and well-being, but he believes that sometimes the best for all the problems is to call an exorcist...or to play music. His musical education started at Musicentro, where he studied classical guitar for 5 years, and then the electric guitar for more 7 years. He his now being musically estimulated at the academy JB Jazz, where he has opportunity to study with Pedro Madaleno, Gonçalo Marques, Mário Delgado, Miguel Martins, Zé Soares, Alexandre Bento, Vasco Mendonça, Paula Sousa, Afonso Pais, Nuno Ferreira, and some other great musicians of the portuguese jazz scene. In 2008, he was selected with 7 more students to represent the JB Jazz at the VI Jazz Festival of S. Luiz, integrating an ensemble directed by Pedro Madaleno. This group won the Acknowledgement Award assigned by the festival jury. Besides various combos/ensembles of the jazz academy, he plays regularly live with Ar d'Groove and Tr3spassam-se.
