NEW AND IMPROVED The Voice Of Vince Podcast
Make sure to check out the weekly podcast with your superfunky superhost, Vince "Daddy" DiMaggio every Saturday at midnight. Hear all sorts of great bands featured and open your mind to the rambings of issues of the day as seen through the eyes of a semi-stable bassist who loves life, liberty and the pursuit of insanity...
In the low-end world of bass playing, the real masters have just one name, ie - Flea, Jaco, Bootsy, Geddy, Sting...it is now time for the world to meet Daddy. Daddy plays the bass too. Daddy is a double-attack, having performed over 900 times live as a bassist and vocalist. Daddy's right hand was clocked at playing 684 notes per minute. Daddy uses his fingers to play because it is more manly to hit strings with meat rather than plastic. Remember this, Daddy is kind, but Daddy will use his belt if he needs to...
Here is the real skinny on Vinnie;
I do play the bass. I own about 7 different axes, one for each day of the week. Both fretted and fretless, it is in my gear. Including a vintage Kramer aluminum-neck fretless 1978 bass, all original. I am spoiled. Not to mention, I was endorsed by Winter Guitars, currently by Knucklehead Strings and Dirtbag Clothing due to the fact that they all make great gear, and well, because I am Daddy. I currently have a few Winter custom W404 models that I regularly perform with if I am not playing my fretless Kramer. I love my Kramer as it is one of my favorite groove tools. I bought it at Guitar Center about 5 years ago for $261.64, then found out that it is in fact a rare model with no surviving match, valued from $1,000 to $1,299. I hardly ever use it for shows, unless the mood calls for it. Otherwise, the Winters get to be my paintbrush for the evening.
But now that I have struck a lifetime friendship with Alan and Leah Holbrooks of H.I.M., I am waiting for the day that I get to hold my new custom bass from their company. Alan and Leah are cool cats from Chico who had been making customized wood pieces of art for a while and I consider myself both blessed and priviledged to work with them in 2008. Please check out their artwork at their myspace page listed below.
I am one of the founders of URN, one of the greatest Bay Area Christian groovecore/metal bands to ever emerge out of California. I put in 3.5 years with Chronic Narcosis as bassist, writer and sometimes even a vocalist. With Chronic Narcosis, I recorded three disks. I am currently putting the final touches on my solo venture under the name of BUSHYHEAD. It is filled with heartfelt material I have worked on for the last few years and is not what most would expect from me as it is not heavy in nature. I also host an online podcast called The Voice Of Vince Podcast. It is pretty rough, so wear a cup.
I am a Property Manager by nature. I love what I do. I get to help people find their place to call home. My job is likened to a bartender working two shifts, minus the alcohol.
I am married, over 13 years now. My wife is too good for me. I married up. Christy rocks my world and supports what I do. I am truly blessed here on this mudball we call Earth.
I am an oldschool Christian, I may not act like it at times, but I believe in what the Bible says about who Jesus is, that He died for my sins and rose again. And most important, I am going to Heaven when I die.
Other family/insanity facts: I watch wrestling weekly with my wife. I miss my MOMSIE who now lives out of state with Alex, the coolest stepfather on this planet, I haven't seen them in two years. But every once in a while I send them personal recordings and rap songs that make fun of us all. Pizza and Rockstar Energy Drinks are like crack to me. Dave Chappelle is the funniest person alive, Carlos Mencia right behind him. Although both of my parents are still alive, I do not talk to my father. Long, sad story...no time here. My aunt Linda is my other mother like no other. A have a cousin by the name of Jenna (in my list of friends) that is not only beautiful, but is one of the most self-driven people I have ever met. She is my favorite fish-fart. My grandfather (Chief Bushyhead aka Papa) passed a few days before 9/11 and I think about him every day. I speak to my sister on a weekly basis. My brother is a lost soul with a very sick mind. Both have children, my cute little nieces, all total brainiacs unlike their parents and uncle. It should be said that to my sister's girls, I am not Vince or Daddy. I am Uncle Baldy :)~
9/11 Tree Dedication Ceremony at Quail Terrace Apartments, Nov. 9th, 2001
9/11 (speaking of which) affected me in many ways. It made me realize that there are other people in this world that would kill me if they had the chance because of what this country stands for yet so often takes advantage of - FREEDOM. The pics above are from a 9/11 Tree Dedication which I led in my community in Fairfield, near the Travis Air Force Base, one of my proudest moments. I support a Pro-Life agenda and think that abortions should be outlawed. There is so much more for women than a lifetime of guilt because of killing their unborn babies.
I guess I must be out of things to say. Make sure to check out the official BUSHYHEAD website at www.myspace.com/bushyheadtunz. AND...Don't forget to go to the URN TRIBUTE site at www.myspace.com/urnpire and say hello! Later, my freaks.

My Interests

Many things interest the mind of Vincia...

For the purpose of this space which I understand is to let you get to know who I am better, peep this -I play the bass to plead my case/ Unashamed/ Direct, up in your face/ One note, one tone, you run in disgrace/ I credit my skills to God's divine grace/ I eat a groove like it's a hot bowl of dinner/ I take straight time and beat it like a sinner/ Absent on race day, yet still the winner/ 300 lbs. never looked so thinner.
Bay Area Metal Legend, FISH!

This is my first customized Winter W404 bass. Green stain over Ash, walnut and maple with gold hardware and active pickups. My favorite stage bass, equipped with green LED fretboard lighting
My ever-faithful black beauty: 1992 My Ibanez SR400 fretted four string....God, I love this bass. I have used it for approximately 400 performances and at least 6 recordings. Sometimes, all that is needed is just the basics (no pun intended) to get the job done.
Ain't she lovely? My other 8-string Winter bass
Daddy's Little Girl...My vintage 1978 Kramer DMZ4000 Fretless 4-string w/stock aluminum neck. I have people lined up to buy this sexy thang once I get tired of her, but it will never happen. I am addicted like crack to this instrument...my only problem is that I cannot play it all day
Yet another custom Winter W404 4-string bass with a flamed-maple black stained finish...Someone from Skitzo owns this now
My flouresent yellow Kramer 4-string. No longer mine, I gave it to an aspiring student and she gave it to her sister. Best of luck!
Daddy's Hattori Hanzos...Where's Bill?!? My Ibanez and My Schecter Scorpion sub-bass with rare matte-gray finish. Sold 2/11/07 for gear cash...no job, need strings and repairs...But it has gone to a good home, its' new daddy fell in love with her at first site. I am such a matchmaker. Oh, and NO! I am not letting go of my Ibanez!
The Legend that is Johann aka Yo and yours truly shreddin' up a metal storm that rivals 80's guitar gods legends (notice Yo's big hair, yeah)
Industrial Metal artist, Klank and the kLANk-cORe Sgt. of Arms...ME! DFL!!!
Churchin' it up @ Oasis Christian Fellowship with the black flamed-maple custom Winter W404 4-string

I'd like to meet:

Those whose time has past us -
Mr. "DIMEBAG" Darrell Abbott

Sam Kinison

The Greatest President of our time...

Bruce Lee

Jimi Hendrix

John Belushi

Andy Kaufman

Sharon Osbourne (so I can throw eggs at her)

Jaco and the chicks from Friends.
Living - Jesus, George W. Bush, Rush Limbaugh, Zach Galifianakis, Roger Martinez (so I can tell him to consider his path and see what an important legacy he started and how well it has matured since), Sean Hannity, my father-in-law (also named Vince) Osama bin Laden (so I can shoot him myself), Zell Miller, my Daddy...HAHAHAHA!!!

Music:

URN was my passion and my firstborn baby, everything after it is an attempt to match the fun and utter enjoyment of seeing crowds of peeps moved by the music coming from three or four (at one time, five) good friends who love Jesus. Even though Greaterthanhatred was birthed out of frustration, it served many purposes, one was creating songs such as Torn in Two (a Chronic Narcosis cover), I-Less and Spiritfall. I still write music as GTH at my home studio and have over an album worth of material. GTH brought Mike Soria back into the metal fold, one of the original guitarists of URN. I have completed URN's tribute page (look at my FRIENDS section for the link) and still need to do one for GTH.

***NEW TO THE DIMAGGIO LEGACY: BUSHYHEAD. Vince has put together a new band. For more info, go to www.myspace.com/bushyheadtunz. 4 NEW SONGS from the upcoming Vince DiMaggio solo release, TITLED BUSHYHEAD are posted. Please leave a kind word, comment, etc. I would love to know what you think of my latest musical venture. It is a complete departure from the heavy stuff (even though there will be a few special headbangers included), this is a collection of songs that I have written over the years that I have enjoyed playing live, or just in a room on my own. My Grandfather and his love for life inspired me to pursue something that I could call my own effort to inspire others. Music is a universal language that can speak to a person's very heart and soul. I originally was going to call the CD, "Turning the Volume Knob to the Left" to prepare listeners to not expect the typicial 110% thunderous Daddy-tone. There are heavy moments and solos where I bring the meat to the table, but there are also some heartfelt songs where actually sing. Why am I doing something that is such a total departure from what I normally do? Simply, because I can. That, and I know it would make my family and Papa proud.

So, what kind of music does Daddy like? Hmmm...Anything with a good groove and a skilled drummer. Here is where I get to pass on some BASSic wisdom: It doesn't matter how unmetal this may sound, but in order to understand where music can take you, study the greats and see where it took them: The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Motown...I can't stress this enough how important it is to have strong roots.

Get this video and more at MySpace.com
Here is a Chronic Narcosis AND Daddy first - A bass solo. Being in a band with someone like Johann who can play solos while sleeping, it encouraged me to step up and get some! Sadly, what the sub-quality video doesn't pick up is the behind-the-neck and cabinet grinding climax...see if you can catch it!

Movies:

King Kong and War Of The Worlds (recent big-screen remakes), The Prophecy (Christopher Walken rules), Stargate (the books are better), Event Horizon, The House On Haunted Hill (the original and the remake), Cradle of Fear, 13 Ghosts, Me Myself and Irene, The Cell, The Passion of the Christ, Clerks (or anything by Kevin Smith for that matter, even Drawing Flies), The Cannonball Run, The Terminator Trilogy, Black Hawk Down, The Deer Hunter.

Television:

MTV's Total Request Live...Uh, not really. Maybe MTV2 will get more airtime in my place now that they brought back HEADBANGER'S BALL!!! Hey, it is about time...I haven't watched MTV on purpose in years. Much love and laughter to The Dave Chappelle Show (bring it back!), Family Guy, Futurama, Fox News, Sarah Silverman, The Late World with Zach Galifianakis (RIP) and whatever channel is airing The Three Stooges.

Other than that, dead air.

Books:

They still make books?!?
Forget books, let me drop some knowledge on ya with a quick video that I think everyone should see -

Iran - The New Iraq? - video powered by Metacafe

Heroes:

Do you really have to ask me that? My superhero, Jesus Christ. But how can I take a system of beliefs seriously when I am in the type of band I am in? It is simple, my personal feeling is that Jesus is bigger than my failures and weaknesses. Do I take advantage of God's grace and patience at times because of the failures and weaknesses becoming excuses? Yes. Does that make me a bad person? No. A bad person doesn't strive to be a better person.
Okay, other heros...My Grandfather, my Father-in-law, Flea, Geezer, Jaco, Geddy, Mr. Steve Harris...long pause in honor of his Greatness, JPJ, Phil Kennemore, Rudy Sarzo, Steve Vai (our generation's Jimi Hendrix), Billy Sheehan, Fieldy, Bootsy, Tom Araya, Stu Hamm, Billy Joel, our President George W. Bush, Ronald Reagen (RIP), Dave Chappelle, Sam Kinison (RIP), Douglas Adams (RIP), Buddy Hackett (the first comedian to make me pee my pants), Dr. Don Rose (RIP), Sarah Silverman, Rodney Carrington, Robin Williams, Patton Oswalt, Brian Posehn and the maker of SOBE GOLD energy drinks.
I can't forget My BRO, Burrito of 8-Ball Cholos
Good friends (that won't be the pissed ones for me since I remembered their names): Gotta give props to the wife Christy, Alan and Leah Holbrook of h.i.m., my Mom and Alex the coolest stepdad ever, Jenni-with-an-i, Tammera, Johann aka Haggas, Rhonda, Casey, Charles, Tye and Laura, Rashida and Joe, Pastor Rob Baker and the Oasis church, Shannon of Avenger of Blood, the former members and great bros in both URN and Greaterthanhatred (Justin, Dan, Jim, Jeff and Mike aka Wookieman), THE URNPIRE!!!, Klanksta, Roy Roy, SWBBK, my cats and my sweet Winter basses and my h.i.m. bass aka Charlana.
