About Me

As a prelude to their upcoming full-length debut, San Francisco’s Sutro follows up the critically acclaimed EP “How Things Transpire” with a remix EP for the song “Affected.” Drawing inspiration from the song’s lyrics, Affected has been “RE:fected” by four amazing talents to create five impressive mixes for one solid release. “RE:fected” is a digital release featuring remixes by Chris Lum, Tony Sevener (Honeycut), DJ F and Sutro vocalist/programmer Tyler Stone. “Re:fected” will be available for download on July 31, 2007 from DECOY Recordings.
The original version of “Affected” was featured on Sutro’s debut EP, which was hailed as “sexy, liquid, cinematic soul that just happens to have enormous commercial potential” (XLR8R Magazine). “Affected” was also released on the compilations SF Essentials, and the NARAS (Grammy) sponsored Test Press collection. Adventurous and risk-taking, RE:fected re-defines Affected with each mix delivering it’s own daring interpretation of Sutro’s sound.
Producer Chris Lum has developed a reputation for delivering some of the hottest underground cuts of the last few years with tracks like the Grammy nominated remix of Jill Scott's "He Loves Me." On the LumDirties Re-Did Mix, Lum departs from his house leanings to bring a retro-tinged electro-funk mix. In-your-face guitars, disco claps, and a touch of west coast hip-hop give this mix a down and dirty vibe while staying true to the original song.
Tony Sevener is the man behind the beats for the undeniably hip, soul-infused electro rock trio Honeycut. For the Honeycut Mix, Sevener struts his production chops with a radio friendly indie-pop mix. Solid beats, layered keys, and sophisticated programming showcase Tyler Stone’s strong vocal performance.
Sutro’s Vocalist/Producer Tyler Stone chimes in with two wildly different mixes. First, on the Broken Mix, Stone takes divergent inspiration from the speaker-shattering basslines and electro flavors of Stanton Warriors versus the jazzy broken beats and subtle Rhodes pads of Nuspirit Helsinki to cultivate her own vibe. White noise is the backdrop to the Static Mix, where Stone puts a little fuzz in her deep house roots, gives a nod to Mousse T, and drops a quintessential beat that will leave heads boppin’ and asses shakin’.
Influenced by the sounds of D. Ramirez and Meat Katie, DJ F delivers his Overdrive Mix. This pounding house track, with aggressive beats, cutting analog bass and stripped down keys, is more than enough to demand your attention on the dance floor.
Led by renowned Producer/Remixer Tyler Stone, (Everything But The Girl, Sting) Sutro – Stone, with Patrick Hinds and Keenan Wayne - “…manage to balance cool, piercing beats, torch piano, sludgy synths and jazzy turns [that] set the stakes in [a] rapturous act” (download.com). iTunes has featured “How Things Transpire” as a main page Staff Favorite. Sutro have been embraced by broadcast and internet radio stations 92.7 (Below Zero), KZSU (2 Electronica, 17 Top 30), KSCU and Groovera.com. Globally, podcasts Giant Step, Tom Thump's “The Enthusiast's Hour,” Dave's Lounge, Well Made Music (UK) and Electrical Lounge (UK) have featured Sutro’s music. As the word spreads, "dance music's mellower, more sophisticated cousin" (Bill Picture, Popbeat, SF Chronicle) is becoming de rigueur for those in the know.
