About Me

*PRESS*"So I walk into this gig thinking I'm 15 minutes late for The Twenty-Twos who I thought were on at 10. Turns out they wouldn't be on for another hour at least - and while normally this would call for making a direct bee line to the bar for an extended menage a trois between me the bartender and Mr. Maker's - but that's when The Anabolics stepped in to make it an even greater night of music and save my liver - temporarily - from even more damage. Like the nutritional supplement that shares their name, they certainly aren't lacking for strength and power. The Anabolics make music that virtually jumps off the stage - a fuzzy poppy punky raw like sugar sound. All three contribute equally to the vocal stylings - which on a stage as wide as Plaid's certainly keeps crowd an photographers alike on their toes. And similar to The Flesh this past Halloween, and Bling Kong every night, they emboldened their set with a true team spirit by busting out their own uniforms - which so perfectly matched the tone of their songs that the proper words to describe the dovetailing escape me." - jenyk.com"The Anabolics like tight pants and tight T-shirts and play girl-group-inspired power pop with an attitude." -Village Voice"There's nothing I like more than hard rocking music by indie bands. Which is why I'm thrilled to tell you about The Anabolics from New York City! Go fuck yourself with your Coldplay, these people aren't playing around. They play kick-you-in-the-teeth garage pop and as they put it, "Our songs are about exes we kicked to the curb, people we love, people we hate, cheating, lying, scorned lovers, and stalkers." Awesome." -OhMyThatsAwesome.com"[The Anabolics] recently sent us their EP, 3 on 1 and a fantastic note bringing us much happiness. The bandmates take turns providing the lead vocals on the three song EP – making each song beautifully distinct. Myriad influences are evident including The Clash, The Shangri-Las, Cheap Trick, Sahara Hotnights, Iggy Pop, The B-52s, and The Go-Go's. Quirky. Punky. Rife with potential, we are anxious for more from these Brooklyn based porn hounds." -Church of Girl"When some publications throw a party or host a fundraiser, they hire a band to entertain staffers and guests. When Guitar World throws a party, its staffers provide the bands...Perhaps the edgiest was Anna Blumenthal, a (we assume) mild-mannered advertising coordinator by day, but the front-woman for punk act the Anabolics by night." -Ad Age"Straight outta the 1950s with songs of rudimentary three-chord trash rock. At least Careena Collins finally gets the musical recognition that she deserves." -Razorcake.org"Brooklyn's The Anabolics are ready to take power pop to a whole new level...[the band is] influenced by music such as Kiss, Cheap Trick and Blondie, mostly '70s power pop, and they find inspiration from simple guitars and catchy melodies that aren't too complicated." -Perpetualtoxins.comCHECK OUT OUR BRAND NEW VIDEO FOR "TONIGHT TONIGHT"!!The Anabolics, the bastard child of the Shangri-Las and the Clash, were born a few years ago in New York City over many beers and even more Cheap Trick records. Guitarist and singer Anna Blumenthal and everything-ist Marcelo Romero (currently behind the drums and sharing vocal duties) were spending lots of time playing Kiss trivia games and watching Cramps DVDs when the thought occurred to them to start a band (and pay homage to their favorite porn film company). The name was chosen, and the band, in all its debauchery, was born. Bassist and singer Christina Ginger completed the trio at the end of 2007. Her melodic, driving basslines proved the perfect addition to the gain-fueled, T-Rex-like guitars and thundering drums.Their brand new album, Anabolically Correct, is a blistering follow-up to their 2005 self-titled debut. Catchy, hook-laden songs about exes they kicked to the curb, cutting their losses and teaming up against the world feature vocal harmonies that prove that the band spends as much time listening to X as they do the Beach Boys. After a performance on WFMU’s Three Chord Monte show in early April and a record release party April 26th at the Lucky Cat in Brooklyn, the Anabolics will be embarking on a national tour in support of Anabolically Correct.
