Lady K-Wida is a female toaster with a lot of power in het voice! She started to sing with different Surinam (Hindu) bands when she was 15. Nowadays she is one of the singers of the Dutch reggaeband Poor Man Friend. Saturday May 3rd her first single 'Love Can Make You Blind' will be released!
Rishma Kewita Bhajan, alias Lady K-Wida, lives in The Hague. Especially in the Surinam (Hindu) scene, she is better known as Rishma. She was the only female reggae/dancehall singer in different bands, like Delight and Xqlusiv. K-Wida worked together with different artists, like Oemar, Sagar and Ashnie.
Lady K-Wida came in contact with reggae and dancehall music throught Apache Waria. Since 2000 she is one of the singers in the Dutch Roots Reggae band Poor Man Friend. With this band, she also worked with artists like Papeman, Don Cudjo, Billyman, Elijah, Zappo and Missrah.
The first time K-Wida worked with Black Star Foundation, was during Anthony B's shows in 2006 (Paard van Troje, The Hague and Melkweg, Amsterdam). She assisted selector Den-Den on the mic before and after Anthony B's show. Many more reggae events followed after that, like the Made in Jamaica Reggae Festival in May 2007 in the Heineken Music Hall (Amsterdam) with Third World, Bunny Wailer and Capleton! !
The first single of Lady K-Wida will be released in Amsterdam on Saturday May 3 2008! This summerhit has a nice reggae beat with an Indian flavour, the song is called 'Love Can make You Blind'. After summer (2008) Lady K-Wida's debut album will be released on Black Star label...
