Black Star Foundation is an all round & "full experience" organisation in reggae/dancehall music, based in Amsterdam (the Netherlands). The foundation is working with both Dutch and foreign artists, especially focused on reggae, dancehall and African music. Black Star Foundation is a non-profit organisation, specialised in promotion and support of (yet) unknown talents.
Besides promotion, management and bookings for artists and bands, Black Star Foundation also organizes and promotes concerts and events. We do many different regular events with Black Star Sound and other DJ's and artists.
In 2006 Black Star Foundation booked shows for Jamaican greats such as Ijahman, Mighty Diamonds, Max Romeo en Anthony B. Black Star Foundation was also responsible for the organisation of the successful reggae festival Made In Jamaica which took place in Amsterdam’s Heineken Music Hall in May 2007. Among the performing artists were Third World, Bunny Wailer and Capleton. In 2007 and 2008 Black Star Foundation booked and promoted the concert of Alpha Blondy in Melkweg, Amsterdam.
Black Star Foundation is started up because of idealistic ideas of the founder Michelle Boekhout van Solinge. In 2002 she lived and worked in Ghana (West Africa). There she got the idea to stimulate the communication between Western and non-Western countries. Through art and culture (especially music) Black Star Foundation wants to contribute in the cultural integration.
