In any other arrangement, Jupiter Jazz would appear, on paper, to be a line-up at a small club's open mic night. But this six-piece spoken word/hip-hop group is no random arrangement. Fronted by emcee Jason "JP" Hill and spoken word poet Jason "The Professor" Braun, the band explores areas of hip-hop, jazz, and funk to create grooves sometimes slow and reflective, sometimes rump-shaking. Drummer and manager Jerry Hill, guitarist Neil Kulupka, and bassist Jason Koenig (yes, half their band are Jason) round out the rhythm section, while violinist Keil Anderson adds the truly unique spice that will surely turn a few new heads Thursday night. StL Scene - 2005
"Blending the point-beat vocals of modern hip-hop, improvisational instrumentals of classic 1920s jazz, funkadelic drum breakdowns of the 1970s, and the poetic phrases of spoken word segments, the St. Louis-based musical ensemble experiments with the forces of today's music scene." The Daily Iowam
"The St. Louis ensemble Jupiter Jazz offers one of the more intriguing and experimental musical blends on the contemporary scene, blending rap and spoken word inserts with funk, fusion and jazz-based instrumentals." The Nashville City Paper
"With apologies to our musical friends in Hair, this is the dawning of the age of Jupiter. Ju-pi-ter! Jupiter Jazz performs its own fusion of live hip-hop and spoken-word poetry..." The River Front Time
"After 16 years of experience in music, Jerry Hill, former UM-St. Louis student, finally accomplished his life-long aspiration: he recently released his first album...." The Current
