Noir Bizarre Fiction

About Me

I write "Noir Bizarre" stories, mixing elements of the crime/mystery and supernatural/fantasy genres. Blame it on an unhealthy fascination with "The Night Stalker" and "Rod Serling's Night Gallery" as a child.
WAKING LAZARUS , my debut novel, released in Summer of 2006. To my surprise and delight, it was named one of the "Top 25 Genre Novels of the Year" by Library Journal .
My second, THE DEAD WHISPER ON , released in hardcover Summer of 2007 (Trade Paperback April 2008), fulfilling my lifelong desire to write a novel featuring both living shadows and spontaneous human combustion.
My third novel, THE UNSEEN, will be on the shelves Fall of 2008.
A few interesting facts/tidbits about me:
• My long list of past odd jobs includes trimming Christmas trees, sorting seed potatoes, selling strawberries, and cleaning cadaver storage rooms.
• As a teen, I was undefeated in air guitar competitions (a record of 3-0), in which I performed songs by ZZ Top. No, really.
• I enjoy pudding.

My Interests

Readin', writin' and 'rithmetic. Minus the 'rithmetic part.

I'd like to meet:

Most near anybody. Please feel free to leave a comment, but keep your images less than 300 pixels wide. Wider images wreak havoc on my layout, and my obsessive/compulsive tendencies can't abide. In other words, if you slap a big ol' image in my comments section, I'll slap it back out.

Music:

I like me some Pixies, Better Than Ezra, David Crowder Band, Foo Fighters, Wilco, Weezer, Fountains of Wayne, Kingston Trio, Hillsong, Derek Webb, Silversun Pickups, and just about anything with distorted guitar.

Movies:

Drama: Shawshank Redemption, Gattaca, Crash, anything by M. Night Shamalamadingdong. Comedy: Monty Python, Blazing Saddles, Fletch, Dodgeball. Documentary: Anything by Errol Morris. Wild Cards: I'll watch, and probably enjoy, anything with John Cusack, Philip Seymour Hoffman, John C. Reilly or Jack Black.

Television:

Didn't your parents ever tell you television rots your brain? That said, I rotted my brain in my early years by watching "Rod Serling's Night Gallery," "Kolchak/The Night Stalker" and "Wild, Wild West." Later came "Twin Peaks" and "The X-Files." More recently, it's "MXC" and "Lost."

Books:

I tend to like mysteries and dark fantasies with a touch of the supernatural, but I read a dash of everything.

Heroes:

Thor, Ghost Rider and Silver Surfer. No one else ever came close.

BEA Musings: Day Two

I think most authors harbor a secret fear that they will do a signing event, and no one will WANT the book. Such was certainly the case for me--I pictured myself sitting at a table with a giant stack ...

BEA Musings: Day One

I'm relieved to report my first signing at BEA--via the Mystery Writers of America booth--was quite fun. I signed 42 copies in 45 minutes, and met a lot of great folks. Lots of library people dropped ...

The Book Lives. And I Leave.

Upstairs, I hear my wife say: "Tony, come here." Downstairs, I usually ignore these kinds of comments and continue my plans for worldwide conquest uninterrupted. Kidding! What I meant to say was: Down...
