Scribe and Scholar (S.S.)/// What do Voltaire, Verlaine and Baudelaire have in common ?

About Me

In a Nutshell: a Post-Modern Decontructivist with a particular liking for prose emanating from existentialist stream-of-conciousness thought (a la James Joyce and not a la Virgina Wolff).Music and Literature occupy my time. Kid A by Radiohead marked a period, it made deconstructive thinking mainstream. Im sure Ayn Rand and Mr. Jacques Derrida would approve.Philosophy has long been an interest. Xavier Zubiri (España), Jacques Derrida, Nietzsche, and Schopenhauer (The World as W&R) are all influences. Ive taken to liking "pos-contemporary french poetry" Baudelaire, Rimbaud and Verlaine. Garcia Lorca (Bodas de Sangre y Romanero Gitano) y Stendhal (La Cartuja de Parma). I want to read Andre Malreaux, Andres Gide, and Jacques Supervielle.I like Art (Roy Lichtenstein, M.C. Escher), I like Music (the more obscure, the better), I like philosophy (particularly franco-german), and well I like books (even propaganda).I like to write mainly because i like to read...and through writing i have found a means for being productive...and not just the unproductive bookworm I have been for the last 8-9 years.I must state however, that i believe "literature" is indeed an artform, as well as a legitimate expression of human genius./////I worked in a Bookstore four years of my life... marked a period. I went through my sci-fi phase where i read every book from Orson Scott Card..s "Ender Series". As of the moment, Im going through my Jacques Barzun phase, and over spring I re-started the Brothers K by Dostoevsky. Gibbons_Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire and Will Durants historical series should be required reading.
As far as music goes...I support indie. I can not stress this enough. I worked for 6 months @ a music store in San Francisco (do not ask me which); this is where I found meaning to life, specifically through the discovery of what they call "Indie Rock" (alongside Shoegazing and Brit-Pop). Indie Rock as a concept, as an understood by Camden Joy.Favourite bands include M83, The Clash, Pavement, Guided by Voices, Elliot Smith, Bob Dylan, Spain (brainchild of Josh Hayden), the Kaiser Chiefs, Of Montreal, Built to Spill, Saves the Day, etc./////Ortega y Gasset (Spain) and JL Borges (Argentina) are my favourite writers in spanish. In the Anglo-English tradition, it would have to be Michael Chabon (Adventures of Cavalier and Clay) and David Sedaris (Me Talk Pretty One Day). PJ ORourke (Age and Guile) deserves a nod for his non-fiction prose. My favourite magazine publication is Uncut (from the U.K.) and when possible the Atlantic Monthly and Harpers are good reads/// Camden Joy is an underated author. I know two languages...Spanish and English. and my life has been divided in betweem two places, which have marked me in different yet equally instructive manners: the hispanic colonial setup of the Republic (NI), and the cosmopolitan and artsy S.F. CA (with a 2 year stint in suburbia personified, Hayward, CA)
01_28_07// As if I needed more literary interests, las night i stumbled upon a paraguyan writer Emilio Caffasi, an expert in communication. It begs the question: How much good literature is there really out there ?// I will never forget those "fake tales of san francisco that echo through the roof" (to quote the Artic Monkeys),particularly when they allowed me the ability of experiencing first-hand the rise of indie (years 2001-2003) in such a truly unique setting, ambient and time, as was the great metropolitan yet quintessential californian city, that is to say san francisco, during the period of 2001-2003. Before The Hives, the White Stripes, and The Strokes (of New York)were overplayed and commercialized.Libertas , Fraternitas, Equalite . ALPHA BETA SIGGMA All intellectuals and artists are welcomed to share...in fact please do so.Get MySpace Layouts from nUCLEArcENTURy .COM OR create your own using MySpace profile editor !!!

Books:

Im way past liking particular books. I was raised on encyclopedias. I like what they call "High Literature"; Jacques Barzun, Jorge Luis Borges, Ortega y Gasset and Leonel Trilling, Federico Garcia Lorca, Michael Chabon,, Ian McEwan. There is just too much literature. If there is one thing that worries me is not being able to read everything that i want in my short lifespan. Literature gave me a "raison d..etre" when i was young adolescent lost in a world full of snobby and stuck up people. I am now stuck up and a snob myself, but i will never never lose the literature. hahaha.I believe in libraries and on their necessity for the construction of a fair and honest society. Sapientia in Libris !!!

Heroes:

Bob Dylan. John Lennon. Jorge Luis Borges. My father, my brother, my mother, and my future wife (wherever she may be).
