Spellbound and subject to misinterpretation...

About Me

Out to prove that tired-and-bitter can be fun!!!
Knowing that the world surely must be in desperate need of another middle-aged singer/songwriter/traffic-reporter, Randy Chepigan remains obsessed with writing quirky and attemptedly-literate semi-acoustic emo garage pop, whenever the rest of his life allows the elusive spare moment.
Foremost in preventing him from doing more of this is a continuing day gig for the past 20+ years as a musically-savvy-yet-goofy radio traffic reporter guy. Currently heard babbling incessant traffic and/or weather each weekday morning on classical WRTI, urban talk WURD and religious WKDN in Philadelphia, on oldies WVLT in Vineland, NJ, and on SIRIUS Satellite Radio Channel 149 ("um, that one's nationwide, but do you really need to hear babbling about Boston and Philly traffic and weather nationwide?") -- merely heard grousing about management duties the rest of each work day. Amidst his sordid past, he's been a part of various other popular Philly radio incarnations, including AAA WXPN, nostalgia/oldies WPEN, hot A/C "96-5 The Point", rock WMMR, all-news KYW, top 40 "Eagle 106", urban A/C WDAS, newstalk WWDB, and a fond but distant memory of the first "modern rock" station in Philly, "I-92 Rock of the 80's"!
Since this is really pushing it as a claim to semi-fame, he also played and recorded with lots o' bands with pitifully modest success from the mid-70's 'til the mid-90's, since then channeling the sparse remaining energy to family and day gig. But he continued all the while locking himself into small rooms to write and record a few times per year.
And so, in mid-2005, Randy finally started to VERY GRADUALLY record some of the most recent stuff for internet release. Roughly an EP's worth of tracks are now available for purchase through the groovy Snocap store above. Please feel free to purchase some tracks for your very own. ("Any reasoning for such a purchase is encouraged and much-appreciated -- affection, pity, charity, actual enjoyment or all of the above...") Given the utter lack of available free time to record, these tracks may or may not EVENTUALLY be gathered into some kind of attemptedly cohesive EP or CD collection. If it ever does happen, after prerequisite multiple delays -- ("Get it? It's almost as if it's on purpose!"), it'll be called "Delays Major and Minor". ("Meanwhile, y'know, my pretense is that I'm purposely eschewing the old-fashioned CD format in favor of this happenin' download hipness. Absolutely nothing to do with my ridiculously-slow output rate or anything...")

In November 2006, Randy contrbuted a cover of "Out Of Its Misery", along with two cover collaborations with the lovely and talented Cindy Graham, to a pretty cool tribute collection, "Look What The Fans Drug In - A Tribute To The Music Of Michael Penn" . That entire project is really worth checking out, but for a more direct route to Cindy's and Randy's contributions, please head on over to the Graham-Chepigan MySpace page and leave a comment or friend request or whatnot...

And hey, if you REALLY have some free time (to devour such fascinating details as favorite tv shows and such,) you're also always welcome at Randy's personal-type MySpace page as well, though frankly, y'know, there's even less going on there.
Thanks for stopping by.

Life intimidates art -- 'Bout damn time I at least updated the blog, eh?

Life intimidates art. It's a line quoted from a mid-90's Elvis Costello concert tour t-shirt, from the Brutal Youth tour.  Been one of my favorite quotes ever since, as it's just so damn applicab...
