Agnosis

2002-2007

About Me

A beast of constant evolution and change, Agnosis stands as a monolith of modern doom. The NY/NJ-based unit wields a powerfully emotive but crushingly heavy sound that captures the sonic density of more recent doom sludge bands (Eyehategod, Crowbar, Neurosis, Warhorse) without sacrificing the melodic sensibilities of traditional doom bands like Pentagram, Black Sabbath, and Cathedral. Formed in 2002 and shifting lineups with clockwork regularity over its first three years, Agnosis is never afraid to revisit its roots, often ornamenting their apocalyptic doom with tasteful moments of thrash and hardcore.
Early on, the band gained a reputation for brutally honest and frenetic live shows which found them sharing stages with some of New York's most brutal death and grind metal acts. Eventually finding its place in the underground doom scene, Agnosis has shared recent bills with such heavyweights as Alabama Thunderpussy, Grief, and Earthride -- time and time again gaining the respect of their peers and elders as they pour themselves into each and every performance. It would seem that Agnosis provides a true, passionate soundtrack to the apocalypse.
On record, Agnosis is equally impressive. While each Agnosis recording (2004's Welcome to the Monkey House, 2005's Zero, and numerous demos from 2003-2005) displays a confident and powerful band, the release of the Hecate EP on the eve of 2006 showcases a newly focused Agnosis. The lineup of guitarist/vocalist Austin Lunn (original vocalist: 2002-2004), bassist and founding member Andrew Jude Riotto, guitarist Dan Hayden, and drummer Will Schwartz has replaced stylistic push-and-pull of previous incarnations with a unified push towards the band's heaviest and most powerful music to date.
