Drawn to the performance of both contemporary and traditional repertoire, New York based flutist Jessica Schmitz has performed internationally across a wide spectrum of musical arts. As a featured soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral player she has given the world premieres of many pieces in the US, and has also worked with such composers as Meredith Monk, Steve Reich, Robert Dick, Steve Mackey, and Harold Meltzer.
Other of Jessica’s recent collaborations include those with the S.E.M. Ensemble, June in Buffalo Festival, So Percussion, Signal, NIME (New Interfaces for Musical Expression), Bang On a Can, Electronic Music Foundation, Chelsea Symphony Orchestra, TACTUS Ensemble, Artists International, and Avant Media Performance. These appearances have been in some of the east coast’s most significant venues, including Carnegie Hall, Symphony Space, Merkin Hall, Yale University, Lincoln Center, Tenri Cultural Institute, The Kitchen, Chelsea Art Museum, Princeton University, the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art, Trinity Church, and CAMI Hall.
A winner of the Artists International Competition, Jessica gave her debut recital at Weill Hall in March, 2006. She has also won the Chicago Flute Competition, Cincinnati Symposium Competition, Yamaha Young Performing Artists Competition, and the Lillian Fuchs Chamber Competition.
Jessica is also founder and Artistic Director of PKN Productions, a NY based arts organization dedicated to the performance of mutidisciplinary works. The inaugural season includes series at the Chelsea Art Museum, The Tank, and Tenri Cultural Institute.
Jessica recently completed her Bachelors at the Manhattan School of Music and is currently on the faculty of New York University where she is also pursuing her Masters in Performance in the studio of Robert Dick.
