Music(!), practicing, audio/video capture/editing, hiking and camping, biking, sushi, foreign languages, religions, world events, computer science, foil fencing, horse-back riding, dancing (any, esp. ballroom, swing, contra, and break), racquetball, working out, skateboarding, cooking and baking, darts (used to throw for a dart league), billiards (used to work at a pool hall- look out!), reading, painting, restoring old musical instruments, carpentry, jammin... I could keep going...
More heroes... Fewer zeroes... Jon Stewart, Stephen "Esteban" Colbert, Edgar Meyer, Stewart Copeland...
I like both kinds of music- Country and Western... No, er... there are so many! Hmmm- doubtless my fave is the Aquarium Rescue Unit (Hampton, Mundy, Sipe, Herring, Burbridge, Mbutu), though I'm most moved by ethnic music- Middle Eastern, South American, African, Chinese, Balinese, Indian, or anything else I might never have been exposed to... Amon Tobin is cool... Anything by Edgar Meyer... Old school Public Enemy, Old school Police and Rush, I play drums with a dj that spins everything from top 40, to House, to Drum and Bass and Jungle- Can't get enough good Jungle... BPM=177... I listen to more urban hiphop/rap than I used to- probably cuz I live in the freakin' rap capital of the world and if I study music business and management, I'm expected to know a little... Jazz and classical will always be my mainstays, with many branches into rock, bluegrass, reggae, metal, funk, classic soul, and just about anything with some cajones or heart.
Eh, the good ones... Way too many to name, but I'm always up for suggestions... Easy Rider is a classic... Trainspotting (seen it @300 times), Pi, early Tarantino, early Kubrick... TRON kicks butt with incredible 80's metaphors, Half Baked... (Chappelle!!!) I live close to the local drive-in. It rocks! Whatever they play, I'll see...
I was there when MTV went on the air... sort of grew up on the old MTV. I watched it 24/7. That was great TV. I watched a lot of Nickelodeon back in the day, too, though I probably shouldn't admit that... Ever since the Real World hit MTV (blargh!!!), I haven't watched that much TV at all (usually too busy), although lately I've been fond of taking time out for the brilliant shows like The Daily Show (my friend Rob is a writer!- I was in a band with him in '90... Rob- internship? job? they just expanded into Germany?!) and the Colbert Report. Other brilliance includes Heroes, The Sarah Silverman Show, Chappelle Show, MXC, Robot Chicken, Family Guy, Adult Swim, and on and on... I can't wait for the next seasons of Weeds, as well as Metalocalypse!!! I love watching the educational/history channels- it's like educational lolligagging. News pisses me off... Never fair, never balanced... Always spun... Occasionally (rarely), I like watching some competitive sports if I'm hanging out with certain friends... Too often, though, tv hurts my brain... maybe another reason why I hardly ever watch tv consistently enough to get into a show or season of something, but I can get into just about anything if I need to turn my brain off and sit down to veg with the old "cathode-ray nipple"...
I like both kinds of books- conservative and liberal...
Jesus, Buddha, My Father, Apt Q258 Jeff Sipe, Jimmy Herring, O'tteill Burbridge, Edgar Meyer, Jack Bell, Rob Henson, Jaco Pastorius, Monk, Trane, Miles, Kinah Boto, Chuck D, Flavor Flav, My Friends...
