Ike Stubblefield

About Me

Ike Stubblefield is commonly hailed as a modern master of the Hammond B3. After more than 40 years of playing, he still carries in the pure Hammond tradition. In fact, Ike has B3s stashed all over the world so he will not have to use inferior equipment.
Over the years Ike has brought that true sound to the stage and studio with the likes of Eric Clapton, Curtis Mayfield, Marvin Gaye, Ike and Tina Turner, B.B. King, George Benson, The Jerry Garcia Band, Al Green and the Derek Trucks Band, just to name a few. He has worked as a composer/producer with Wendy Waldman, Jim Capaldi, Phil Spector and many others during his time spent in San Francisco, New York, London and Atlanta.
Since the late-60’s his artistry has been featured on hundreds of albums, tours and film/TV projects and he is still recording and mixing some of his best work today. The upcoming adult contemporary jazz release, 'Old Souls on New Shoes' finds him stepping out of the sideman shadows with the Ike Stubblefield Band.
However, Ike is not one to harp on the days of yore. Like he is prone to say, “that was all yesterday, I’m moving forward.”
With the newly formed Ike Stubblefield Band, he will be able to record multiple projects that reflect his diverse creative output. From latin to jam, multiple projects are in the works.
Over the past year Ike brought in some dear old friends to help out on the 'Old Souls on New Shoes' sessions. We are talking about talent in the form of Bernard Purdie, Fred Vigdor, Marcus Williams, Joey Sommerville, Bob Baldwin, Grant Green, Jr. and many others. The result is a smooth jazz album that brings out the mastery of Ike's playing through his strong compositions.
The core touring band that will support the album is a three piece consisting of Drums, Guitar and B3. The basic three-piece can be augmented with special guests as the talent buyer wishes.
Recently brought on by Tree Sound Studios to act as in-house producer, Ike will be developing talent based in and around the Atlanta area.
However, there are two more projects Ike is currently writing for. One being a latin album that will feature Steve Gadd on drums. The other will feature Col. Bruce Hampton, Jimmy Herring and Jeff Sipe. Expect a digital single from Bruce, Jimmy, Jeff and Ike in the first half of 2008.
Worldwide tour dates ramping up for the 'Old Souls on New Shoes' release will start in April 2008 and focus on key festival and club dates. The Ike Stubblefield Band is also entertaining package deals and select opening slots on larger tours.
-------------------------------
The music featured on this profile will continue to rotate consistently. Some of the tunes selected will be live performances. Some will be songs Ike wrote/co-wrote or produced/co-produced. We will also be previewing several tracks off the new album in coming weeks. Stay tuned for updates.
