Lovers and Liars is the new project of Spout’s Stacy Hogan. With a fresh approach to sound, songwriting, vocals, and instrumentation, Lovers and Liars is an "outside the box" approach to new rock.
Combining a variety of influences with natural songwriting talent, Lovers and Liars sounds both fresh and compelling, featuring piano-driven songs with infectious hooks. Instrumentation and texture vary from song to song, yet each is part of a larger concept. Creative influences are drawn from musical pioneers such as Nine Inch Nails, Leonard Cohen, and Mike Patton, as well as popular artists such as Blue October and Angie Aparo. Underneath the sounds are compelling, carefully-constructed songs by Hogan, who was twice voted among the top three independent songwriters in Nashville in the Nashville Scene’s annual reader’s poll.
After spending years as the front man (guitar/vocals/songwriting) for the modern-rock band Spout, Stacy decided to take a break from it all, touring with a Grammy-winning artist around the U.S. and regaining a passion for his original instrument of choice: the piano. Soon after, he began to write and record songs he had been brewing that simply didn't fit the mold or expectations of today's modern-rock crowd, conceiving a new sound and style that ultimately became known as Lovers and Liars.
With Spout, Stacy toured around the Southeast, sold thousands of CDs of entirely self-produced material, and had airplay on MTV programming (The Real World, Road Rules, Gauntlet 2, The Duel, etc.) and CBS shows such as NFL Today.
After a long and winding musical journey, Stacy has created some of his most intense and personal music to date. The songs are relatable, dark, and yet memorable, all brought to life with the new sonic orchestra that is Lovers and Liars.
