Coming from small town in west Tennessee then making the move to Nashville and eventually fronting bands in the top clubs around the southeast would seem like a successful career awaited Spencer Ezell yet his morals, his dream and where he wanted his life to lead all would have to coincide somewhere.
Spencer had a normal childhood with a Christian upbringing, family morals and wonderful friendships. His dream quickly became music and to one day be a “starâ€. Looking for greater opportunity, he left his home and moved in early 2005 to the closest thriving music scene, Nashville Tennessee. He began working in spots at local open mic nights at venues such as the world famous Bluebird Café. Within the next four years thereafter became a part of two rock bands one of which was a solo project for him. He started filling audiences with a growing fan base and moving a few CD’s at Nashville’s top music venues and hitting the road with dates in parts of Ohio, Georgia, Kentucky, Florida, Mississippi, Alabama and more.
Along with this lifestyle though, came some things that Spencer was not aware of. Late hours in smoke filled bars lingering with drunkenness were not the surroundings Spencer wanted to pursue his career in. Touring in such conditions and not spending enough time with his young daughter began taking its toll on Spencer in late 2008. Doing a self evaluation on himself led him to wonder what exactly did singing and songwriting have to do in Spencer’s life other than just being that “dream†he has always had. What were his main objectives in the first place? Of course for the love of the stage and making a living using it, expressing himself, beliefs and feelings through his writing and performing, and impact people with his messages in a way they could relate to. His family oriented personal life involving his walk with God, daughter, close friends and church participation was colliding with the musical ambition and something had to give. It was a literal fork in the road. There had to be a way to continue pursing what he loved and making time for those he loved as well.
After singing a special at his church one Wednesday night towards the end of 2008, Spencer was convicted by a few short, caring words of a Godly, humbled pastor. He told his congregation, “Spencer is a wonderful blessing to this church family and I know God has very special plans for his talent in the futureâ€. After hearing this Spencer lost sleep over the entire concept. He questioned himself of how the path he was on at that time could honor God and truly use his talent to reach people of all ages and backgrounds. He then knew what he had to do and it was so crystal clear.
Spencer made the announcement in 2009 he would be leaving the rock scene and atmosphere and enter into God’s will for his talent and life. Spencer received overwhelming support from friends and family and began works on his first Christian based album. “This is a whole new me. The album is a whole new sound, and now, I have a whole new dreamâ€, Spencer exclaims. Spencer is now building his organization and ministry. He plans to conduct food and clothing drives along with his music and host a weekly internet radio show that will act as a bible study and allow listeners to call in and discuss their questions or problems to a caring listening ear. The next chapter has begun.
