About Me

Music keeps me from sleeping at night. It also wakes me up in the morning if I actually can get to sleep. It has been my lifeblood since the early days of rocking my ukulele taped up like Eddie Van Halen's guitar when I was about 8 yrs old. I've played in bands since I can remember, and it was all I wanted to do. I moved to Nashville in 1993 with a rock band I was in and got really interested in how records were made. At that point I went back to school to study production and that took over as my passion. ------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------ Shortly after starting at Belmont in Nashville, I met and began working with engineer Russ Long, and producer Steve Taylor. Between working on commercial projects for the likes of Wilco, Switchfoot, Sixpence None the Richer, dcTalk, and Phil Keaggy, I couldn't get away from the feeling of playing live and was at it again. This time with an instrumental quazi-jazz group that I also wrote, recorded, and toured nationally with called SCHFViLKUS. This group allowed my to really stretch some of my broadest musical ideas finally coming to life, and test some of my writing on some unsuspecting ears... ;) ------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------ I've stayed on the live side of things now days by engineering live recordings for Jeremy Camp, Mercy Me, Nichole C. Mullen, and celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Dirty Dozen Brass Band by producing, engineering and mixing their live at the New Orleans Jazzfest recording in 2003. (Rykodisc Japan) I've even been out mixing live shows sometimes for people like: Josh Rouse, Old Crow Medicine Show, Over the Rhine, & Dropping Daylight to name a few... ------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------- After being on the road a lot and developing my own projects to the national level that I had learned quite a bit about how to develop artists from the ground up. I thought it might be helpful to work with some that could benefit from my experiences and possibly help them skip some steps. I've been fortunate to work with some of these acts in different ways and value our continued relationships. I hope that this is a thread that defines my work regardless of style, and that everyone I work with feels that they can always keep an open line of communication in place. ------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------- At this point my driving passion is artist development, and I love to produce, engineer, mix, and write with young bands looking for great sounds, arrangements, and imaginative direction. Timeless recordings with great songs and unique personalities are what I'm drawn to. Musically, I'm so all over the place, so you'll need to ask what I'm listening to right now, and I'm sure we'll find a common line. If you have something for me to check out you think is up my alley, I look forward to hearing it...
