I was born April 5, 1978 in Van Nuys, California to Marlu Been Swan and Billy Lance Swan. I have a sister Planet, who is a musician as well. I started playing music at a very early age because my mother made me take violin lessons, which I despised and everytime my mother made me practice I through a fit. I begged my mother for piano lessons and finally she said Yes! I only took lessons for a couple months because I was too lazy and did not practice. Finally by the age of 15 life kicked in and I started having things to write about so I began playing guitar and later fell back in love with the piano. At 18 I joined a band called Dollshead with Graham Edwards, we released our first and only record "Frozen Charlotte" in 97', Dollshead broke up a year later due to no label support. In 2000 I began my solo journey, which began with late nights in my studio just recording one song after another. Two songwriters by the name of Anne Previn and Scott Cutler heard some of my demos and asked if I would be interested in writing with them, I was thrilled because my sister was a big fan of their band "Edna Swap" so I was curious to see what would come out of it. We recorded several tracks together and I had a blast and learned so much from them. I was then signed to Atlantic Records, where I recorded "Queen of the Valley". Some of the producers on that record included Anne Previn and Scott Cutler, Jeff Turzo, Howard Benson, Chad Hugo and Linda Perry. Atlantic, needless to say, had no idea what to do with me so they dropped me. This is where Miss Perry comes in...here is the recap. I was laying on my couch very depressed wondering what I was going to do when my telephone rang. It was Linda, she asked me what I was doing and I said "wondering what I am going to do with my life". She laughed and said well I am going to get you a deal over at Interscope. I did not believe her, I obviously did not know who I was dealing with...soon I had a deal and was buried in Linda's studio for 4 months. Well actually between her studio and Bill Botrell's studio, who produced half the record. I had a wonderful time with both of them. Once the record was finished I was sent out to open up for my old pal James Blunt. When I returned I went out once again but this time I was on my own, playing around the U.S. with my wonderful band. Seeing that the industry is not the biggest supporter of the unknown artist I was dropped once again. Now I am embarking on another journey, which is writing itself at this very minute.
