Thanks to the dogged perseverance and relentless enquiries of the Swedish Inquisition (light dinner conversation) Mr Martin Philip was obliged to answer a couple of questions regarding the new album, Decline.
The Inquisitive: So you define your music as pop these day and not as electro/electronica? Mr Philip: Oh sorry, it´s perhaps an insult to the ones who make proper pop music.
The Inquisitive: What brought you back to music after this four year long hiatus? Mr Philip: The perpetual futility of my existence and the nobel art of escapism.
The Inquisitive: That sounds a bit pretentious, doesn´t it? Mr Philip: More like hilarious to me.
The Inquisitive: So what´s new then? Mr Philip: It´s all software now. I´ve sold all the machines that goes "ping".
The Inquisitive: "Ping"? Mr Philip: Yes and the others that goes "ecki ecki ecki patang zooooop boing".
The Inquisitive: And what else? Mr Philip: The tempo is much lower now. I think it´s about aging. A metabolism issue.
The Inquisitive: There´s no Emma Peel in leather suit for your Avengers image. Mr Philip: Diana Rigg was busy that day so I had to settle for a Weimaraner. But otherwise Chapeau Melon et Bottes de Cuir is a great combination.
The Inquisitive:
Is Rene Magritte another influence?
Mr
Philip:
He was a surrealist. I´m an impressionist. My charm increases by the proportional to the square of the distance.
The Inquisitive:
Who are your presumptive demography? Mr Philip: Synth-popers,
Anglophiles and other degenerates. Oh, and one more thing. If you don´t want it, simply decline.
