London based Portuguese DJ/producer Filipe Galante, aka PIXEL 82 followed the release of tracks on CO2 Recordings and Bloop Records with the release of his greatly acclaimed Electric Shock EP and Kiss the Future EP on his own LDRecords.
Besides his own DJ and live work and original productions, PIXEL82 has remixed such outstanding and diverse artists as Freddie Mercury (“Love Kills”), Kylie Minogue (“Boombox”) and Anderson Noise (“Londrina”), and has been remixed by Monoroom. During this, he has also worked as a sound designer for performances, dance and films, namely for Channel 4.
Busy with a new Remix for Kylie's "Wow", he just finished producing the next single for dance diva Billie Ray Martin, while playing live as a dj and live act both in the UK as in Portugal. His track PingPong has also just been licenced to "Carl Cox Ultimate" compilation for Ministry of Sound|Universal

HOUSE YA
Reviewed by:triggs
Rating:7/10

How far has techno crossed over into house? Well, certainly the lines are blurred between genres out there. Pixel 82’s last release PingPong (hopefully after the ping pong delay and not a trip to Bangkok) was licensed to Carl Cox’s Ultimate compilation on Ministry of Sound.

The follow up, as you might expect from the title, is a much housier affair. I like a brave producer, and producing a piece of electronic music at 122 BPM is always a bit of a gamble. Pitch it up to 125 and you have a much more useable piece of music that still retains its pitch fairly well. I’m not even sure if you’d call this tech-house exactly. It has techno elements, a housey/bumpy/chunky feel and well, maybe, some elements of tech-house.

Kicking off with a strong Moog style bassline and lovely metallic insert effects and building into some whoosh, bleep and fidgety sounds, House Ya is strong from the start. The synth lines build into a melody that will be the main-stay of the track but they fit in very well with the bleeps and sweeps that underlie the track really helping to hold it all into a coherent piece of work. There is a break that utilises a great sweeping filter and kick back in to the track. This deceptively simple track contains a lot of detail so don’t be fooled into this was thrown together in a couple of hours – there’s a lot there making this work.

There’s a slightly unnecessary vocal mix which is basically the instrumental with some vocal snippets added and a strong Chris Fuentes mix for those of you who worship at the alter of the techno in its purer form and a bonus track Come to Mine. This is all about the original, a strong piece of house/tech-house/techno that will appeal to a wide variety of jocks.

Old school heaven peppers the euphoric main riff [somewhat recalling 'Sueno Latino'] which carries this latest from Portuguese London-based producer Filipe Galante responsible for last year's 'Kiss The Future EP'. There's also a Vocal Mix injecting voice bites. New York's Chris Fuentes turns in a great remix, fattening the groove with resonance and hippo flatulence, spiced with the odd chemical toilet gloop. Bonus track 'Come To Mine' scores again on the emotional riffs and building melodies showing that this isn't just a one-off. Unfortunately download only. 4/5

For “Kiss the Future” EP

IDJ
Featuring the vocals of Simone from MamaShamone, who sounds uncanilly like Lola from Spektrum, "Kiss the Future" is the work of London based Portuguese producer Filipe Galante. A fast paced electro workout in its original vocal version, it stands well as an instrumental...On the flip, Pingpong is a more controlled slab of bouncy techno, which Monoroom re-works into a superb slow burning, shuffling minimal groove".4/5

DJ Mag
"New wave electro it may be but there is nothing affected and artificial about Filipe Galante's "Kiss the Future". It's acidic, it's funky, it's crunchy and best of all Simone's vocals are catchy as the clap. Meaning it will work well beyond the confines of Shoreditch. Flip over for a couple of deep and trippy tech housers." 4/5

M8 Mag
“The best track here is the original mix of PingPong. Will give this a play out.” 9/10

For “Electric Shock” EP

DMC Update
Hailing from Portugal but chomping out of Shoreditch, Filipe Galanta has a swings and roundabouts situation in that he's just remixed Freddie Mercury but has managed to thrust forth four tracks of grungy technological electro-boogie pressed on green vinyl. it's another where the spirit of Giorgio Moroder riddles the riffs - decidedly electro-clash on the title track - while the sleazed-up 'On The Rocks' boasts mad synth acrobatics.Kris Needs 4/5

For Freddie Mercury “Love Kills” PIXEL82 Remix

DMC Update
On the flip PIXEL82 has the guts to properly get to grips with the song and turns it into a edgy yet poppy electro anthem, the result is a shockingly relevant mix that truly clicks with the legend's original delivery. Jerry Bouthier 4/5
