About Me
Originally from Hermosillo, Sonora, México, Héctor MartÃnez Morales (b.1980) has a background in several types of music, notably Latin-American folk and traditional music. He also studied classical music and his compositions range from electro acoustic pieces to electronic works for fixed media to concert works involving folk music elements.As a pianist and guitarist, he has performed with numerous ensembles and as soloist as well throughout the Southwestern United States and in New York and Boston. He also appeared as charango soloist with the Baltimore Chamber Orchestra to premiere his charango concerto Trois Images de Ma Vie or Three Pictures from My Life.His works have been performed throughout the U.S. and in Mexico and Paris, France including performances at the Juilliard School, Northeastern Illinois University, Arizona State University, California State University at Bakersfield and The Cliff Dweller's Club (Chicago). He has studied at the Herberger College of Arts' School of Music at Arizona State University, the Longy School of Music in Cambridge, MA and at the Schola Cantorum in Paris France under Philip Lasser, Narcis Bonet and Michel Merlet. Commissions include the American Composers Forum's Continetal Harmony as well as a work for John Bruce Yeh of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.Working out of the Boston area, Héctor is currently active as a composer and performs regularly. Most recently, he lectured on his music at the Dr. Erol Üçer Centre for Advanced Studies in Music at the Istanbul Technical University.
