Beyond Reality Music (BRM) was formed in June 2003 initially to distribute the music of Six Foot Under after they obtained a distribution deal with BMG Records.
Over the 4 years of its existence, BRM has developed into a highly maverick record label that exists to challenge and change the many things wrong with the record industry today.
The production of music has become bland and over-produced. BRM uses the most up to date and sophisticated mixing techniques to mix music in a way that enhances the energy and the soul of the music.
The record and radio industry are beset by rules about how music should sound and how it should be produced. BRM challenges all this in a world obsessed by rules without the presence of common sense or individuality. BRM actively seeks out some of the most talented, creative and spontaneous musicians in the world and helps to mould them into the stars of tomorrow. It also works hard, recognising its responsibilities to the public in developing the musicians into powerful and inspiring role models.
The record industry is stuck in a time warp somewhere in the 60s, where it believes that only young people buy music and only they can produce it. The reverse is true. Most of the better and successful bands and artists around today achieve success because behind the scenes there is an older, wiser and more creative producer or writer providing the inspiration.
Most of the public, from the ages of 35 upward buy almost no music at all as there is nothing being created that appeals. They are going to the concerts in ever increasing numbers of their heroes, but their heroes are no longer writing great music which means that outside the concert hall there is no appeal.
Young people, by contrast are discovering the music their parents listened to by the greats of the past. They are buying less and less of the mainly meaningless drivel produced by their own generation or choosing to download it without paying – a clear statement that they find much of the music of their own generation not worth paying for.
Many young people feel alienated and that the future is bleak. They are seeking powerful role models who have balls and integrity. What they have in the music industry today, with a few exceptions, is boy and girl bands and people who have the personality and charisma of vanilla. Is it surprising that in increasing numbers they are choosing to listen to the music of the past?
BRM, recognising these sociological and demographic changes in the potential audience aims to develop artists from amongst the best and the most powerful musicians, irrespective of age and aims to mix the most energetic young musicians with the most creative mature musicians who have more life experience and more emotional depth than the young in isolation.
