Bay Area Actress Creates Industry Haven
For Media Release:Hollywood had the Brown Derby, Manhattan had Sardi's. Now, thanks to the creativity and tenacity of Bay Area actress Heidi Woods, the Bay Area Film, TV, Theater and Music Community will have it's own place to meet and mingle. The Purple Onion, the Bay Areas premiere comedy club of the 50's and 60's, helped launch the careers of comedy greats Phyllis Diller, the Smothers Brothers, Mort Saul, and later, lent it’s stage to our own multi-talented
Bay Area native Robin Williams. The website, www.freewebs.com/bafttanetworking, launched less then a week ago has already had over 600 hits. Of course, Woods has ever given much credence to the word "can't". With 3 children, she juggles the responsibility of being a wife, mother and working actress. All while helping her children realize their dreams of being actors and future basketball stars.Woods two oldest children, Angelica and Aaron are both respected child actors in the Bay Area, so auditions and call backs are everyday occurrences in the Woods household. The Networking Events, which will become a twice monthly gathering, offer an array of happenings such as music by Bay Area musicians, teasers and trailers from some of the Bay Area's hottest Indie Film makers, comedians, photographers, interviews with working actors from both the Bay Area and Hollywood and an area where projects, job opportunities, head shots and resumes can be posted. Casting agents will also be on hand. Then there are their exciting, upcoming Red Carpet Screening Nights, where the women will literally roll out the red carpet and screen full and short length Indie Films by Bay Area directors and film companies. All of this will eventually culminate in the First Annual Golden Indies Awards Show, where the Bay Area's best and brightest will not only be recognized, but awarded for their talent and hard work..To set up an interview with Heidi Woods please contact her via e-mail at
[email protected], or by phone at 510-754-8259. It's a funny spot so keep your eyes open for it!Heidi is currently working on a Sitcom Pilot with Chelsea McVeigh "Producer/Writer extraordinaire" and Moss Productions Studios called "Prospect High" that is sure to be a hit! Heidi plays the roll of Karen Bates, the campus supervisor who is said to be the "glue" that holds the school together. Sort of a cushion between the (highly intellectual but mischievious firework loving, pot smoking) students and the (Vietnam Vet) Principal who suffers from post war syndrome. Fireworks don't help him much....We'll keep you posted with all the updates.
