About Me

In high school, everyone in my English class had to write a sonnet in the correct form, meter, and rhyme scheme. I did it well, I thought, but was almost thrown out of school for writing it.---High School Purgatorio---Throughout my life it has been Truth I've sought.---The System shuns the Truth that it conceals---and so I questioned all that I'd been taught.--- just empty echoes answered my appeals.---It seems that life is always cutting deals.--- The teacher's job's to keep you in the fold.--- but Hitler offered up these same ideals:--- applaud what's white and do as you are told.---And why are teachers'heads stuck in a mold?--- Their principals and principles collide--- (a whore has better principles to hold).--- Best tune them out and search for truth inside.---The truth shall set you free, the scriptures state.--- Those by their own choice bound, do freedom hate.---alternate couplet:---The truth shall set you free is prophesied--- But careful now lest ye be crucified.---SONNET OF THE SIXTIES - After threats from my teacher to fail me for that term (I was an "A" student in that class 'til then), I was finally given a C-. The school principal told me I was an "iconoclast," and had warped social values, plus no "respect for authority." Of course, this was in the 60's, and I HAD no respect for that establishment drone's authority. The writings of revolutionaries had far more appeal than my J. Edgar Hoover's textbook "Masters of deceit," which for the title, I took to be an autobiographical, personal piece on his life and the founding of his organization.Oh well, I like to look back on the whole experience with a sense of humor, and just call it a "formative experience," although I often wonder what our president's first sonnet might have been ... perhaps Dick Cheney wrote it for him.

Heroes:

Mystics throughout history; Environmentalists and sustainability advocates; People who will stand up for social justice, even risking imprisonment or death (e.g. Alice Paul, a scholar and Quaker activist for women's suffrage who defied convention and Pres. Woodrow Wilson, and went to jail and then on hunger strike where she was force fed to keep her from dying, thus causing bad press). Ironically, if not for Alice, and others like her, Ann Coulter might not have her status and rights today. Ann would call Alice a "traitor" - in her book by the same name today, because the latter openly defied a president. God forbid anyone should call our top two executive branch, corporate shills "King George and his evil Dick." I also like Jesuit Priest Berrigan brothers, Fathers Phillip and Daniel, who have been jailed on many occasions for standing up for social justice.

Sarah Margaret Fuller (1810 -1850) - journalist, critic, women's rights advocate, it's said, she was the most well read person in New England of her time, intellectual, friend of many transcendentalists including Ralph Waldo Emmerson, and transcendentalist journal, THE DIAL, editor.

Margaret's Great Nephew, R. Buckminster Fuller - writer, scientist, inventor, architect, professor, poet, alternate energy and sustainability engineer and visionary, the "last transcendentalist"
