Publicity and Marketing

About Me

Snow Runner FAQ
What do you do?
We build custom marketing and publicity plans for artists labels and other businesses, and then implement them.
What is a publicity and marketing plan?
Well they are really two different things. A publicity plan deals with working with media outlets such as writers, editors etc., letting them know about the client, and finding the best outlets to provide coverage for them. A marketing plan, on the other hand, deals with sharing information about the client through things like advertisements, grassroots marketing, street teams, and more.
How big is your company?
It’s mostly just me, (my name is Will), but I do have some folks I hire part-time and usually have some interns helping me too. But don’t let the size fool you, I have had artists placed in some of the worlds biggest outlets, and have worked with some pretty big artists. I purposely keep things small so I can make sure each client gets the best possible results each time.
How did you get into this business?
I have pretty much never had any other job than working in the entertainment business. Even in high school I found it a lot more fun to put on shows and play music for a living than having a part-time job. So I went to college for music business and performance. After graduating I toured the country for over a year playing music and learning more about the business. I came home from touring and started this business. I still record, play out live and tour from time to time also.
Who have you worked with?
I love music of all styles, so I work with artists in every genre. The biggest deciding factor for me in working with a band is that I truly love what they are doing. I have also worked with many non-music businesses too. Here are some of the artists, labels, and other businesses I have worked with in one way or another over the years:
Ryan Leslie (NextSelection), Bill Harley (2007 Grammy award winner),Hands Down Eugene(XOXO Records), The Gaslight Anthem(XOXO Records), Monument(XOXO Records), Run Dan Run, Ari Shine (Bongo Beat Records), Mono (Temporary Residence), Wheat (Aware Records), Jupiter Sunrise (Undecided Records), MF Grimm (Day By Day Entertainment), Ben Miller and the Low Anthem, Lansdowne, Hemlok, Bill Thomas (Wrote the music for Capt. Kangaroo), Everything Ends, Chris Rosenquest, NextSelection, Day By Day Entertainment, VI Marketing, Canoe Passage Outfitters, India Restaurant, Wonderbar, Carriage House Creamery and many more…
What are your rates?
My rates depend on the artist’s or label’s budget. I have worked on projects from $500/month to $4,000 per month. When I find an artist or label I want to work with (or they find me), I ask them to come up with a budget that they are comfortable with. From there I come up with a plan that fits their needs within their budget. If they like the plan, we get things started, and make things happen.
Why do you do that?
I do this because every artist or company is in a different place; they all have different budgets and different needs. It wouldn’t make sense to charge a band just starting off at the higher end rates if they are not touring and selling tons of records. I make sure the budget fits the plan.
Can you get my band signed, on tour, on TV, famous etc.?
I can work as hard as I can to make all of those things happen, but they do not just happen on their own. I view it as a sort of partnership, with the client putting in all their effort as well (touring, recording, showing up for interviews etc.) I do everything within my ability to achieve the goals of my clients, but it’s important to know that there is no magic spell to making a band big, but I strive to do everything I possibly can to make it happen.
Where are you located?
I mostly work out of Rehoboth, Massachusetts, but I also have an office in Warren, Rhode Island that I work out of sometimes for a change of pace.
Tell me a bit about yourself?
My name is Will. I love writing and listening to music; you can hear my own music at www.myspace.com/willbrierlyandtherollerholsters . I enjoy canoeing, drawing, computers, kendo, reading, and I work as a professional magician on the side for fun. I am an avid fan of video games, especially studying the history of them.
If you like video games, then how do you get the silver arrows in Legend of Zelda?
They are in the last dungeon, I think; I’ll have to reference my massive catalogue of Nintendo Power magazines. I’m more of a Burger Time guy anyway.
How long have you been in business?
I have been doing publicity and marketing for about 3 years now, but I have been working in the music business for around 11 years.
Can I hire you as a consultant?
I have consulted labels, artists and other businesses before, so send me an e-mail and we’ll see if we can set something up.

What makes your company different from others?
Well, there are a lot of great publicity companies out there, the key is to know who you are working with and why. I make sure that I’m always available for clients, and I take pride in working diligently to build their career. So far I have had some pretty great successes, and I anticipate many more to come.
How do I start working with you?
First of all I have to really be into what you are doing, as an artist or label. If I don’t fully believe in what I’m promoting it won’t work. The best thing to do is just contact me by sending me an e-mail at [email protected] or writing me at www.myspace.com/wopb. I’m constantly listening to new music so send me a message and we can talk!
