"Your New Favorite Band" - SPIN.COM
Sink or Swim is the kind of record that leaves you drooling for a follow up. Its perfect mix of punk and rock and roll has me wondering how much these guys sweating the legendary sophomore slump, because this record is going to be hard to top. But even if they never surpass the intensity and heart of their debut, the fact that their first record is better than most band’s entire catalog will give these fine chaps a special place in my music collection. This record surpasses the hype." "Reviewed by: John-Michael Bond Mammoth Press
"Sink or Swim, the New Jersey-based quartet's debut LP, is the type of record that most young bands wish they could create to launch their musical career. Easily one of my favorite releases of 2007." PUNKNEWS.ORG
"Every once in a while an album comes along that just knocks you sideways in its unbridled greatness. The Gaslight Anthem’s Sink Or Swim is one of those records. Highlights are hard to pin point to be honest because there isn’t a single moment throughout Sink or Swim that isn’t close to being flawless." PUNKBANDS.COM
Simply put, TGA are able to take ancient romantic sentiments and tell them from the perspective of a grown man who has seen the world and forgiven it of its shortcomings, not as an adolescent dealing with his first encounters... These are not 18 year olds with faux-hawks and devil spikes. These are people with diverse tastes, and who know more than one or two tricks on the guitar. By taking classic rock sensibility and merging it with modern youthful delivery, it sounds both fresh and instantly welcoming. LEFT OF THE DIAL
"It is rare that an album comes along with not one song of filler material. There is nothing that has corrupted The Gaslight Anthem yet. You are listening to something completely real and pure. Vocalist/guitarist Brian Fallon proves he is an amazing talent. He leads the way with his gravelly vocals and street-wise poetic lyrics. This is anthemic punk rock with the unique storytelling aspect of folk rock added to it. The band shows their incredible range across the album. On their debut, the band has surpassed where most bands fail to get to in a whole career. The Gaslight Anthem prove they are a force to be reckoned with. Sink Or Swim will no doubt be a classic that will serve as a blueprint for countless other bands in the future. Yeah, it really is that good." - SOUND AS LANGUAGE
REVIEWS FOR SENOR AND THE QUEEN!
For those who are not familiar with the band, they play a kind of bluesy rock ‘n roll, and though they only have one full length to their name, they seem to know unquestionably who they are as a band. Rather than put together a group of singles, The Gaslight Anthem have constructed a mini-album that is in no way hurt because of its runtime. Well worth the measly four dollars I paid for it. — ABSOLUTEPUNK
Fallon's lyrics are by and large the best part of every Gaslight Anthem song. Of course, it helps that they are accompanied by great music, but his words read like a 1970s-era Springsteen transplanted to the present day mixed with tales of a road-tired touring band. His lyrics create romantic tales of characters so sincere in their emotions (especially love) that you'd think they were fictional if you weren't so sure he was speaking from the heart. Lines such as, "Show me your hands, I wanna see how you dance pretty baby by the light of the moon" and "We sing with our heroes 33 rounds per minute, we're never going home until the sun says we're finished. I'll love you forever if I ever love at all" invoke the innocence and sense of Americana that makes Fallon's lyrics feel like home. In the end, that's one of the best things about this band -- the comfort they provide. — PUNKNEWS
The Gaslight Anthem are one of those bands. Avoiding any one genre, the music they play is best described as heartfelt. Call it rock, punk, blues, folk, whatever, they do it well. They are easily and favorably compared with Against Me! and, at least for me, brought The Lawrence Arms to mind. Though 'Blue Jeans & White T-Shirts' reflects some definite John Mellencamp influences. Señor and the Queen brings four songs that don't sound similar, but somehow manage to convey a common theme. Raw, powerful, and brutally honest, the buzz building around this band is well deserved. — MIXTAPEMIX
