About Me

About Bluehat. Well, OK then. Bluehat is me. Read on, and all will be revealed! I was born into a military family in Lowell, Massachusetts.
Go Red Sox !!! We moved around quite a bit, but we were in Lowell again for my High School years. That’s when me and the boys stood right in front of the stage, at the Commodore Ballroom, and watched performances by classic rockers like, Jeff Beck with Rod Stewart, the Cream, the Kinks, Vanilla Fudge, and many others. We didn't know how lucky we were. We had our own band that didn’t do much, and soloing in coffee houses just made me crazy.
I drove trucks for a while, and I loved it. Got freedom? But I was always writing songs… taking words and twisting them around… making them rhyme, or not… making them fit the rhythm, or not. I finished college, so that I wouldn’t be looking over my shoulder, and drove to Los Angeles to pursue a songwriting career. I got seriously distracted while paying the bills. I “reacquired the target” so to speak, about eight years ago, and I’ve put together the two collections of original songs you see on this page. Although I’m still a major Jeff Beck fanatic, I’ll never be able to play like he does, so I tend to write songs that feel right when I sing them. I blame mom’s Johnny Mathis records for that. The result is a kind of soft rock, with some country flavor here and there. My appreciation of modern country music has exploded over the years. I just love good storytelling, and the way country musicians play guitar. A lot of country bands also use Hammond organs, and I can’t resist that sound.
Anyway, that’s the Bluehat story. By the way, the Bluehat thing was just a doodle. My name isn’t easy to pronounce, so I was trying to think of another one to use. One day I drew this thing that looked like a blue hat, and I thought, “That’s it. It’s a name, and a logo. Problem solved.” Take a peek at my website ( http://www.sunsetmusic.com/music.html ) if you’d like to hear the full versions of the songs, and I‘ll be posting some new ones soon. I love writing lyrics, and one fine day, you’re going to hear someone singing some of mine on the radio. Then you can say to yourself, “Hey, I know where that comes from.” Speaking of radio... I just want to shout out to everyone here in L.A. If you don’t already know it, country radio is back on the air. “Go Country 105” Dial it up. (Of course, we’ll all be dead before we get a football team.)
Hugs and kisses,
Bluehat
