Matthias Urech

At the tender age of six, 1980 born swiss guitarist, producer and songwriter Matthias Urech got his first piano lessons, followed by ten years of classical and four years of jazzpiano lessons at the Jazzschools in Zurich and Berne. At the age of eleven, he wanted to play another instrument and so he picked up the guitar and took his first lessons in classical guitar. Soon he changed to electric guitar. Nine years of jazz, rock and pop studies at the music school in Wettingen followed. After finishing school in 2000, Matthias began studying at the Swiss Jazz School in Berne, where he got guitar lessons with Francis Coletta. After three years, he took one year off for a study visit in New York City. In October 2004 Matthias continued the studies at the Swiss Jazz School and made my degree in performance and education. During that time, he had improvisation-lessons with swiss saxophone player Andy Scherrer. Since 1996 Matthias was playing in many different bands and projects as guitarist and keyboarder, today mainly in jazz, blackmusic and pop. He played several studiosessions with his own bands and as a studio musician for pop, house, reggae and hiphop productions. In the year 2000, the first album of his band „portefank“ was released. He started to spend a lot of time with songwriting, arranging and production. Since 2003 Matthias is doing his own productions, mostly in blackmusic and pop. In summer 2005 he signed a contract with SonyBMG Music Entertainment Switzerland for his band „Fusion Square Garden“. Together with singer Mauro Corchia he produced the Album. He worked together with many well known swiss engineers for recording, mixing and mastering. In April 2006, the album „Dä Wo’s Het“ by „Fusion Square Garden“ was released. The single „Vagabondo“ hit Swiss airplaycharts in summer 2006 and stayed in the top 30 for several weeks. At the moment, Matthias is staying in Paris France, where he is working on different new productions such as a new record with the band „portefank“, a soul/ R’n’B production and new songs for the next album by „Fusion Square Garden“. Over the last 10 years he was and still is always busy playing livegigs with different bands in different styles in clubs and at festivals all over switzerland.
