About Me

Hmmm... You wouldn't think that describing oneself would be that difficult. Like many others I am simply trying to learn a thing or two during this phase of my existence. After many years of trial and error, I am determined to make some sort of an impact, here and beyond...

My Interests

I believe that life is art and art is life. For many years, an appreciation for art and culture lay dormant within me. About five years ago this all changed. It was like something inside had been simmering all those years and it eventually boiled over into this passion for creativity and life in general. Much of this has been due to a newfound lease on life by way of my recovery. I have many other passions that I may share with you in time. Speaking of which, music...

I'd like to meet:

People in general interest me a great deal. I am a longtime observor of the many colorful characters I've encountered upon the landscape of life. That having been said, if you're positive in nature, active in spirit and enjoy a good laugh, you're my kind of people. I truly believe we can all learn something from one another. Shall we? Music:

Far too many to list, but to give you an idea, all of the following artists have graced my ears in the past few months: Interpol, Johnny Cash, The White Stripes, NIN, John Coltrane, Jeff Buckley, Radiohead, Smashing Pumpkins, Elliot Smith, The Decemberists, Joy Division, Catpower, Deftones, Sun Kil Moon, Thelonius Monk, Massive Attack, Self, Ralph Stanley, A Perfect Circle, Neutral Milk Hotel, Woody Guthrie, Stone Temple Pilots, Last Crack, Rocco Deluca, Bright Eyes, Neil Young, God Lives Underwater, Fiona Apple, Charlie Parker, Clutch, Arcade Fire, Norah Jones, Nirvana, Rival Schools, Tupac, Saigon Kick, Coldplay, Bob Dylan, Incubus, Led Zeppelin, Tool, Ben Harper, Rage Against The Machine, The Doors, Helmet, Prince, Ministry, Soundgarden, Jack Johnson, Billie Holiday, Pearl Jam, and Modest Mouse (just to name a few).

Heroes:

Jesus, the Dalai Lama, Gandhi, and my Papaw are just a few of my heroes. I also have great respect for many everyday people who make the world a better place with nothing more than a kind word or a smile. I greatly admire many visual artists including Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dali, Jackson Pollock, Hedda Sterne, Robert Rauschenberg, Lee Krasner, Vassily Kandinsky, Hans Hoffman, Franz Kline, Jean Michel Basquiat, Willem de Kooning, Dennis Hopper, Leonardo da Vinci, Joan Miro, and anyone else out there with a creative vision that comes from deep within... you included!

Critics be damned

"I was a really lousy artist as a kid, too 'abstract expressionist.' I'd never win painting contests. I remember losing to a guy who did a perfect Spiderman."   The artist who said this was ofte...

Do you hate the U.S.?

Do you hate the U.S.? Maybe like some of my friends from different parts of the world, you aren't particularly thrilled with the current U.S. foreign policy. I understand. I'm not too thrilled with ou...

The first poem I've written in a long, long time.

Again   Silently, disengage and then disarm me Subtly, so consoling as you harm me Initially, I presume to know what's best for me Ironically, we assume that this was always meant to be   B...
