The Rhythmist

Welcome to the wonderful world of rhythm and words!

About Me

I am drum/percussion instructor, musician, poet, nature lover and creative soul, who seeks like minded people to just hang out and have fun with. I also run a small not for profit small bird rescue that specializes in cockatiels. I also feed local ducks ( that come back to my backyard each year ), a couple of named seagulls, many squirrels, hundreds of wild birds, and an occasional possum or racoon that wanders in from the night.BACK TO THE MUSIC!! My tastes run from experimental to ethereal in the music world. In the rest of my world I love the same variety with interesting people, ideas, art, solutions, and food. I love the simplistic and the abstract. I love the fact that the best times are right under our noses, if you just slow down enough to look.

My Interests

Music, art, food, birds ( I own cockatiels and run a non profit bird resuce called FOR THE BIRDS so contact me if you find a lost pet bird. I specialize in Cockatiels and smaller ), nature,...a variety really! We have bulldozed billions of acres of their homes! Excuse me, but God help us if all we are going to do is kill off all the animals, just like ____ okay, I won't go on a rave here. BUT you all know natives were slaughtered the same way in not only American, but Aus, Finland, and almost every other country on the planet. PEOPLE WERE HERE BEFORE WE WERE!!!! and now we not only sucked up the life from them, but now we suck the ever living life out of every innocent animal in sight????

I'd like to meet:

I live in Seattle area and have my weekends semi free for fun times. I am married with no kids, but have 10 birds ( and they stay kids forever *l*).On the social side, I like meeting friends to go to concerts with, and try new places to eat, and even get a small acoustic eclectic band together. I seek just gaining a small group of kind spirited humans and/or just hang out and have fun with.On the business side, I seek some creative musicians to form a part time band, to play small venues such as coffee houses etc. An acoustical world music, with progressive touches would be great. My dream band would be a fulltime ( able to sustain a living too) band crossing styles of Sigur Ros, DCD, X Legged Sally, Porcupine Tree, VAS, Stravinsky, 16 Horsepower, Red House Painters,XTC, The Frames, Crowded House, Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, The Byrds, Clannad, Shearwater, Bark Psychosis, later day Talk Talk, Peter Gabriel, Gong era YOU, Kate Bush and a kitchen sink full of varied world musics, with occasional dose of King Crimson and Jan Garbarek (or something in that giant tangled knitball). The mix of the complex with the beautiful really attracts me. Always will *s* BIG POT OF STEW cooking with so many ingredients that it is mindblowing once you taste it. Yes.. dreaming big!*s* STILL! You get old when you give up your dreams!

Music:

Good creative musics of almost any kind but especially Sigur Ros, Jan Garbarek, Malicorne, Hedningarna, Kate Bush, Peter Gabriel, Hector Zazou, Saro Cosentino, 16 Horsepower, Scott Walker, X Legged Sally, Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, Stroke 9, Meredith Monk, Steve Tibbets, VOX, Flairck, The Nits, Lisa Gerrard, Peter Blevgad, October Project, Jeremy Enigk, Stackridge, Crash Test Dummies, Terje Rypdal, Amarok, King Crimson, Gentle Giant, Mike Oldfield, Bill Bruford, Red House Painters, HEM, Allan Holdsworth, Gong, Finn Bros ( and all the solos from Split Enz to present ), Clannad, Camel, Strawbs, Ark, Condor, and the would have been "before it's time" world fusion band I was in in the 90's which we named 'Yonder' ( but it never did anything more than stay in someone's basement ( I could still cry over that one). I could list music for weeks on end so just understand I LOVE MUSIC! *s*

Movies:

Most all types except goofball comedy. I like odd/abstract comedy and subtle comedy fine, just no empty octane teen comedy please. I love suspense, thriller, and mystery the most. A great drama is always welcome. A mix of all the aforementioned is a delight! I also love interesting documentaries. Some favorites are Short Cut To Nirvana, The Ninth Configuration, Angel Heart, Rabbit Proof Fence, The Wicker Man ( I have the wooden box special edition of this one too *s*), Bladerunner, Whalerider, Kingdom Of Heaven, Sideways, The Fight Club, One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest, The Mission, Unforgiven, Scrooge(1970 edition - Albert Finney as THE ALL TO GREAT Ebenezer Scrooge), and other films that will never make sense to this list.

Television:

A sparse number of shows and a odd mix.Maybe The Mentalist, My Own Worst Enemy, The Amazing Race, Boston Legal, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Frontline, Nova, Last Comic Standing, Cops (for laughs), Twilight Zone, Pro Tennis, and occasional Austin City Limits and other televised music concerts. Actually I do more random watching than anything. Friday Night Lights, Jeopardy (yep, I am an old fart *l*), 60 Minutes ( yep, I am a boring old fart *lol*), Frontline (yep I am a concerned human for the condition of the whole damn world and all who live in it *s*) and women's Curling on the Canadian channel (because the men's is boring and too trite).

Books:

I have trouble with finding quiet time to read long novels but I can easily read short stories. I am cursed with the always churning mind, that sometimes gets in the way of long term attention on one single subject for hours at a sitting. *s* I did read Lassie Go Home when I was a child.*l* It was the longest book I had ever gotten glued to. Other books as a child were all magic, snakes, and tornado/hurricanes. It seems an odd mix but at least I had interests *s* I feel The Bible is valid and a supreme book of knowledge as to how the world should live and treat one another. It's exactly what the hippes falied at in the 1960's. I was a member of that philosphy but it got canned and beaten by drugs and a lack of people all coming together as one. Does this keep happening? Yes it does! People have become more selfish and 'BETTER YOU THAN ME' in their thinking over the years. I think the world is full of fear but there is hope, if only people would make the largest snowball of GOODNESS ever! And let it ROLL! *s*

Heroes:

God! He is the only being I can possibly think of that fills that category. Hate kills and cripples everything on the planet. If you doubt that God is the true Creator of this earth....then just watch one of my favorite movies of all time about 6 times... The Ninth Configuration staring Stacy Keach along with some of the finest classic actors ever to grace the screen. It's both fun and deep! Trust me! But watch it alone and with plently of quiet time. It's a waste to watch if you are hyper, have 6 kids running round, or just can't make time to turn down the lights and really 'thank' *aka* think deep and absorb the gold under yee eyes *s*
