ITALIANO: Nato a Bruxelles nel 1974, inizia a suonare la batteria a 5 anni. Dal 1982 segue lezioni di solfeggio e batteria all’Academie de Musique di Woluwé. Dal 1986 segue lezioni di batteria con Pierre Muller sino al 1990 in cui si trasferisce a Roma. Dal 1990 al 1991 frequenta il Saint Louis Music Academie (lezioni di batteria con Maurizio dei Lazzaretti, di armonia e di sassofono). Dal 1991 al 1992 frequenta al C.I.A.C lezioni di armonia, sassofono, laboratori ed un seminario con Dave Weckl. Nel 1992 si diploma al Liceo Scientifico. Frequenta la Berklee Summer School a Perugia dove segue uno stage con Paul Motian, Joe Lovano e Bill Frisell. Dal 1992 al 1993 a Los Angeles frequenta il Musicians Institute nella sezione del P.I.T. (Percussions Institute of Technology) seguendo le lezioni di Joe Porcaro, Ralph Humphrey, Efrain Toro, Chuck Flores, Richard Garcia e workshops con Manu Katché, Greg Bissonette e molti altri. Nell’estate del 1993 frequenta i Seminari Senesi di Musica Jazz, dove segue i corsi di batteria con Ettore Fioravanti, suona nella Big Band diretta da G. Gazzani (con cui si esibisce in un concerto per due big band a Piazza del Campo), studia analisi con Marcello Piras e Teoria con Tommaso Lama. Dal Settembre 1993 al 1994 frequenta alla scuola di percussione Timba lezioni di percussioni africane, cubane, brasiliane, persiane e indiane. Nel 1994 frequenta a Ravenna l’edizione Mister Jazz ‘94 dove partecipa al seminario con Tony Oxley e al workshop con Dave Weckl. Nel Giugno del 1994 registra il disco “Marco Locurcio e Fabio Locurcio Quintet – C U in Heaven” insieme a Javier Girotto, Marco Siniscalco e Alessandro Gwiss. A Belluno frequenta i workshop estivi Veneto Jazz organizzati dalla Manhattan School Of Music di New York. Nel Settembre del 1994 fino al 1999 torna a Bruxelles dove frequenta e si diploma al Bruxelles Koninklijk Conservatorium nel dipartimento di Jazz, studiando con gli olandesi Hans van Osterhout (Toots Thielemans, Philippe Cathrine, Enrico Pieranunzi) e Chander Sardjoe (Steve Coleman, David Liebman). Suona regolarmente con il Locurcio/Gadzina Quintet classificato quarto al Europe Jazz Contest nel 1996. Nello stesso periodo, 1995-1997 studia musica indiana seguendo i corsi di tabla al Sangit Indian Music School e nel ’97-‘98 frequenta in Olanda il Conservatorio di Rotterdam nel dipartimento di World Music sezione di Musica Indiana diretta da Hariprasad Chaurasia, seguendo corsi di tabla, teoria musicale indiana, solfeggio indiano e sistema ritmico. Fa parte del gruppo pop-rock Giusi con il quale registra un cd dal titolo omonimo prodotto da Kroko Records e PolyGram Publishing. Nel ’98, nel primo viaggio studio in India, frequenta il Karnataka College of Percussion a Bangalore, prendendo lezioni di mridangam con T.A.S. MANI (Charlie Mariano, Steve Coleman), studiando, inoltre, la medesima percussione tipica della musica Carnatica del Sud India, in una scuola a Kochi e lezioni di tabla a Bombay. Nell’ultimo anno del conservatorio di Bruxelles viene selezionato e partecipa ad un programma di collaborazione con il Conservatorio di Colonia in qualità di batterista nell’orchestra diretta dall’arrangiatore Bill Dobbins. Nel ’99 in un secondo viaggio di studio a Madras, nel Sud India, frequenta per 2 mesi la scuola Sri Jaya Ganesh Talavadya Vidyalaya del maestro Vikku Vynayakram (Shakti, John Mc Laughlin) con cui studia solfeggio ritmico indiano, mridangam e gatham, svolgendo il programma del corso di tre anni, e dove frequenta, inoltre, lezioni con il maestro di mridangam Karaikudi Mani. Dopo questa esperienza in India torna a Roma dove nel 2002 si laurea in Etnomusicologia presso la Facoltà di Lettere La Sapienza di Roma con 110 e lode con una tesi su "Il Sistema Ritmico della Musica Carnatica – India del Sud – Aspetti Storici, Teorici e Matematici” di cui Giannattasio e Giuriati sono rispettivamente relatore e correlatore. A Bruxelles partecipa in produzioni discografiche e concerti con Screen, Marco Locurcio sextet, Jennifer Scavuzzo, D-tail, Mr Blabs, Lea. A Roma partecipa in produzioni discografiche e concerti con TalaVadya, Leo Cesari, Giori, Feel Good Productions, Lalli e registra il primo disco solista di jazz composto e arrangiato da Fabio Locurcio (“Zoboko Square”), insieme a Marco Siniscalco (basso), Gianni Savelli (sax), Aldo Bassi (tromba e flicorno), Corvini (trombone) e Marco Locurcio (chitarra). Suona e registra in Francia con il gruppo My Diet Pill e in Svizzera con Princess Dorothy.

Influences:ENGLISH: Fabio Locurcio was born in Uccle (Brussels) the first of May 1974. In 1979, 5 years old , he begins playing drums. After a short time he’s part of the first of many bands he will be part in that period with his brother Marco and of other friends from the European School. When he was 8 years old, in 1982, he attends for 2 years l’Academie de musique of Woluwé saint-Pierre where he takes classes of music theory and drums. From the age of 12, 1986, he follows private drums lessons with Pierre Muller until he’s 16 when he moves to Rome. ?In Rome from 1990 to 1991 he takes drums classes, of harmony and saxophone at the Saint Louis Music Academie. From 1991 to 1992 he follows lessons of harmony, ensemble and saxophone as well as a drums workshop with Dave Weckl at the C.I.A.C. music school. When he’s 18 in 1992, after get the high school diploma at the Liceo Scientifico Manfredi Azzarita in Rome, he follows in Perugia the Berklee Summer School, where, among others, he attends a one week stage with Paul Motian, Joe Lovano e Bill Frisell. ?At the end of the summer he moves to Los Angeles where he attends the Musicians Institute in Hollywood until 1993, in the P.I.T. faculty (Percussions Institute of Technology). At the P.I.T. he takes classes with Joe Porcaro, Ralph Humphrey, Efrain Toro, Chuck Flores, Richard Garcia and workshops with Manu Katché, Greg Bissonette and many others. ?Back to Italy, when he’s 19, in the summer of 1993 he attends the Seminari Senesi di Musica Jazz, where he takes drums classes with Ettore Fioravanti, he plays in the Big Band directed by G. Gazzani (with whom he will do a concert for 2 big bands in Piazza del Campo), he studies jazz analise with Marcello Piras and theory with Tommaso Lama. From September 1993 to 1994 he takes african, cuban, Brazilian, persian and indian percussion classes at the percussion school Timba in Rome. In 1994 he follows the stage in Ravenna Mister Jazz ‘94 with Tony Oxley and a workshop with Dave Weckl. In June 1994, at the age of 20, he records and co-produce the cd “Marco Locurcio - Fabio Locurcio Quintet – C U in Heaven” with Javier Girotto, Marco Siniscalco and Alessandro Gwiss, signing one of the 8 composition (Nevermore). Just after this recording he follows the summer stage in Belluno Veneto Jazz organized by the Manhattan School Of Music of New York.?In September 1994 he moves back in Brussels where he attends for 5 years the Brussels Koninklijk Conservatorium in the jazz department, studying with Hans van Osterhout and Chander Sardjoe and graduating in 1999. He plays regularly with the Locurcio/Gadzina Quintet of which, in1996, is produced a cd with performances of the first 4 bands classified in the Europe Jazz Contest of Hoeillart. In that same period he studies indian music following tabla classes at the Sangit Indian Music School, from 1995 until 1997, and from 1997 until 1998 he follows classes of tabla, of indian music theory, and about the indian rhythmical system in the world music department of the Rotterdam Conservatorium in Holland where the indian music department is directed by Hariprasad Chaurasia. He’s part of the pop-rock band Giusi with whom he record the cd untitled with the band name and produced by Kroko Records and PolyGram Publishing. In 1998, at 24 years, in his first studying trip to India he studies mridangam (main percussion instrument in carnatic south indian music) at the Karnataka College of Percussion in Bangalore, with T.A.S. MANI (Charlie Mariano, Steve Coleman), an in Kochi and tabla in Bombay. In the last year in the brussels’s conservatorium he’s selected and he’s part of a collaboration program with the conservatorium of Koln as the drummer in the orchestra directed by arranger Bill Dobbins. In 1999, when he’s 25, in a second longer studying trip in Madras, in South India, he attends the Sri Jaya Ganesh Talavadya Vidyalaya school directed by the master Vikku Vynayakram (Shakti, John Mc Laughlin) with whom he studies the indian rythmical system, mridangam and gatham, finishing the school 3 years program. In Madras he follows also lessons with the mridangam master Karaikudi Mani. ?After this indian experience he moves back to Rome where he starts back studying at the university, where he was inscribed since 1992 giving exams when possible studying with the program’s books and in 2002 he graduates in Ethnomusicology at the faculty of Lettere at la Sapienza in Rome with 110/110 cum Laude (final work about the “Carnatic music rhythmical system – South India– historical, theoretical and mathematical aspects”).?In this period, alternating with working periods in Brussels for concerts (with Screen, Marco Locurcio sextet) and for record productions (Mr Blabs, D-tail), he continue to live in Rome where he is part of many musical projects as a drummer (acoustic and V-drums), percussionist (tabla, ghatam, mridangam, experimenting percussions set together with the sampler), and as a producer. ?Just after graduating at the university, in July 2002, he starts his recording studio,named Jati, of which he is the owner together with Marco Locurcio. The first recording is the band Lea from Belgium, in which he participate also as the drummer. In 2002 he is part as composer, arranger and musician of the cd single of the swiss singer Giori "Moi je t'aime", produit par la Amiata Records, and he plays in the second solo album of Leo Cesari. During the summer 2002 he plays tabla with the italian-english band "Feel Good Productions". In 2003 he plays percussions in the album Lalli "All'improvviso, nella mia stanza" co-produced recorded and mixed by Carlo U. Ross at Jungle Sound in Milan and Transeuropa Recording Studio in Turin. In 2003 follows the recordings and productions like Screen “Credits”, My Diet Pill, and Fabio Locurcio own band recording, composed and arranged by him, played together with Marco Siniscalco (bass), Gianni Savelli (sax), Aldo Bassi (trumpet and flueghorn) and Marco Locurcio (guitar).
