Matteo

Born on Oct. 15, 1983, he started studying music at a young age, approaching study of piano first and deciding to study drums later. Discovered quite soon a real passion for Jazz music, he started studying it at 16, attending to one of the most prestigious Italian schools like BERKLEE COLLEGE OF MUSIC in Perugia and several seminars like “SEMINARI DI ALTO PERFEZIONAMENTO MUSICALE” (“ HIGH MUSIC IMPROVEMENT SEMINAR”) in Città di Castello, guided by his private teacher, the great pianist and composer (also a poly – instrumentalist) RAMBERTO CIAMMARUGHI, MASSIMO MORICONI, FABIO ZEPPETELLA, UMBERTO FIORENTINO, MAURIZIO GIAMMARCO and, as teacher of instrument, JOHN ARNOLDS, a drummer from New York. He keep studying attending to seminars in “ArceviaJazzFeast”, delivered by the best jazz musicians of the area, among which, MASSIMO MANZI, with who had studied tradition and, surpassing the musical discourse, he has begun a beautiful friendship and a deep “father – son” relationship. Others teachers who had earned great success and were present at the seminars are: MASSIMO MORGANTI, EMILIO MARINELLI, GABRIELE PESARESI, SAMUELE GAROFOLI, LUCE PECCHIA, CARLO BATTISTI, SIMONE LAMAIDA. Matteo studied the basis of Cuban music with the great teacher JOSE’ LUIS QUINTANA FUENTèS “CHANGUITO”, who is a sublime Cuban musician, drummer, timbalero and conguero, an innovator about what concern instruments techniques, inventor of “SONGO” and “MERESONGO” rhythmic, precursor of Latin jazz and winner of two “Latin Grammy Award” with ROY HARDGROOVE. Being a musician full of curiosity, Matteo studied also basis of Indian music tradition, studying “tabla” with the Berliner teacher AKY MONTOYA, during jazz seminars organized by the pianist GIOVANNI CECCARELLI. Then he has analyzed in details the study of Brazilian music with the native drummer NATALIO ALVèS DE OLIVEIRAS, he has attended to Masterclass of great musician, among which BILL STEWART, PETER ERSKINE,MASSIMO MANZI, MAT WILSON, GARY NOVAK, ROBERTO GATTO, CHRISTIAN MEYER, PAOLO PELLEGATTI, RON SAVAGE, TULLIO DE PISCOPO, ELLADE BANDINI, etc. Matteo is also a senior year student in “COMPOSITION AND ARRANGEMENT” at the CONSERVATORIO “G. ROSSINI” (“G.ROSSINI” ACADEMY OF MUSIC) in Pesaro leaded by the two masters BRUNO TOMMASO E STEFANO ZENNI (Experimental Triennium of Jazz) and he had collaborated in many formations dealing with a vast quantity of styles, peculiar of improvised music. The most remarkable are: the VOYAGE QUARTET (Fabio Marziali – Alto sax, Emanuele Evangelista, Alberto Napolioni – piano, Amin Zarrichang – doblebass) with which cut a record of their own compositions that would be presented in Macerata on November; the Four Steps (Modern Jazz and Electronic Music, Drum’n’Bass) with which performed at the Conversazione in Musica exhibition organized by the Cultural Association Astor Piazzolla, (artistic director Hugo Aisemberg). In August 2006 the group was chosen as opening act of LINO PATRONO and his band during the second edition of “Voces Intimae” Festival. On September 1st , 2006 the Four Steps has the honour of opening the BORDIGHERA JAZZ FESTIVAL (IM), anticipating the exhibition of NORMA JEAN WRIGHT & LUCI MARTIN (THE CHIC) feat Adika Pongo. Matteo had participated also for two times to a renowned jazz exhibition “7 GIORNI IN JAZZ” (7 DAYS IN JAZZ) on the side of musician like JAVIER GIROTTO and others international artists. He plays also in local exhibitions presented as a “YOUNG TALENT”. He collaborated with famous artists like EMILIO MARINELLI, GABRIELE PESARESI, SAMUELE GAROFOLI, he is side man of the well known accordionist GIACOMO ROTATORI and he can boast his experience with the Big-Band "ROSSINI JAZZ BAND" while he is carrying a good didactic activity. He has just obtained a scholarship to keep studying attending at “JOHANNES GUTTEMBERG UNIVERSITY OF MAINZ", (Frankfurt), gaining the opportunity of studying with JESSE MILLINER and others important European and international well known artists.
