Naphta - Long Time Burning CD
A key figure in the development of the drum n bass scene in Ireland, Naphta is regarded as something of a Jungle pioneer in his own country.A founding member - & resident DJ - with Bassbin for 10 years, his productions provided key moments in the Bassbin Recordings back-catalogue, while his unique style on the decks proved hugely influential to a new generation of Junglists both at home and abroad.2007 opened with the success of his ‘Soundclash’‚ double-header on Lightless Recordings demonstrating the truth of what he had claimed for years: that there was a whole new generation of drum n bass fans out there starved of the vibes, rhythms and attitude that had first made him fall in love with the music.Paving the way for his debut album proper, ‘Grande Illusions: Demonstrations in the Art of Underground Drum n Bass’ compiled previously unreleased highlights from his back catalogue, and was offered up free gratis for a limited time in Summer 2007 - to a hugely enthusiastic reception (10,000+ album downloads). Now Naphta steps up to deliver his vision of an updated Jungle sound.Purposely rooted in the source music that inspired the original sample-heavy Junglistic blueprint back in 1993/‚94, ‘Long Time Burning’‚ offers a selection of ruff cuts that draws on reggae, dancehall, funk, soul and hip hop and combines them into an explosive whole - with the precision that only a true veteran and long-time believer could achieve. The end result is as colourfully melodic, rhythmically urgent and uniquely inspired a vision of Jungle music as you‚re likely to hear for some time. You can preview tracks from the LP above and purchase the LP now from the Fear Website. The Fear first showed its face in 1998, as part of an influx of underground clubs into Dublin's newly opened docklands venue, The Funnel. Running side by side with Decal's legendary Phunk City and fledgling Bassbin and D1 nights, The Fear became a legend in it's own short lifetime.
Early Fear Flyers 98 - 99
Already notorious for their respective shows on Dublin's premier underground station Power FM , founding members D.C., Troubled Soul and Droid + Slug took pirate radio to the dancefloor, working Electronica, Techno, House, Hip-Hop, Ragga and Jungle together in full-on four deck sets. D.C. and Droid were also responsible for a series of innovative graphics, but it was a collective effort that saw the streets of Dublin plastered with stickers, posters, flyers and badges, indelibly branding The Fear's logo onto the city's psyche.
