RODO TOU ANEMOU (ROSE OF THE WIND)
The Story ...so far
Rose of the Wind was founded in 1996 by Yiouli Tsentourou (percussion and voice), Ada Kostourou (guitar and voice) and Yiannis Zigiris (guitars, piano, traditional stringed instruments and voice), who still remain the core members of the group. From time to time they are joined by other musicians, including: Dimitris Kroustallakis, Christos Dalianis, Dimitris Koundourakis, Dimosthenis Katsanis, Yiannis Barbayiannis, Vassilis Liarmakopoulos and Oswald Amirallis. Its influences are from traditional Greek, Balkan and Near-East music, the lighter and purest side of American and British rock, Western harmony and Eastern melody. It is also open to whatever is true in the music of more recent generations. Above all, the band believes that “music is the vehicle that brings to the listener fragments of our soul. It can take us to that mystical landscape where genuine people, who are free of material needs and convention, meet in spirit”.
Before bringing out their CDs they played their own music and arrangements at the legendary Basil's Bar [Baraki tou Vassily], Tea in the Sahara [Tsai sti Sahara], Café Performance [Kafe Parastasi] and elsewhere.
They were offered a recording contract by members of the then newly-founded company Melodiko Karavi, when by chance they heard them play at Basil's Bar.
Their debut album, recorded at Akron Studio, was released in 2003, with contributions from Phoebe Delivorias at Odysseus Nightmare (Efialtis tou Odyssea) and Christos Tsiamoulis at If(An). Together with these two musicians, as well as the group Encardia, the band continued to appear live.
After a ‘musical pause' due to professional and family reasons, Yiannis Zigiris (lyrics and music), Ada Kostourou and Yiouli Tsentourou, as well as many other exceptional musicians, recently began work on their new CD at the Soundflakes and Akron Studios. For “music is like time. It changes everything around us completely and forever, without us even having noticed. It has set off before we do and doesn't stop when we want it to or when we are forced to withdraw for a while. It is simply there. So let us wait for a while like teenagers once used to anxiously look forward to their first date, or, if we have grown older, let us get to know each other all over again. Expectation is always sweet. So, strangers but friends: until we meet again…”
Note 1: Translation of the lyrics is added at “lyrics” section of each song.
