About Me

Hi! I m Seppo Valjakka, thanks for stopping by. I m 56 years young blues fan and I just love to play! As a young man I started by playing bass and keys, but later on I ended to guitar. I have never been professional but played in several finnish bands, mainly rock. I have allways loved blues. After in 60’s as a teenager I heard Eric Clapton in John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers it was glear to me that the blues is my thing. It was EC and John Mayall, who

teached me into the blues. Then I first heard also Robert Johnsson, Freddy, Albert, BB , all those great Kings! Well, years passed and I got married, had children, worked in a huge paper mill for 32 years in Lappeenranta , the town I was born. Still played but not regular bases. Just to maintain some of the ability to play. When I got 50, my little brother Lauri asked me if I wanted to make a celebration CD. Well, after serious thinking I agreed. The "Blackbird"-album was born. It was never my intention to publish it, but after I did, it received lot of interest in finish blues society and I was very satisfied. A little record company Rubato Music got interested to make an new album and of course I accepted their offer. The album "Taking it Back" was born. It received big interest in finnish blues society and was voted the finnish blues album of the year 2004 by listeners of the famous radio programme the"Bluesminister". The editor in that programme is far famous guitarist Esa Kuloniemi, wo plays in R/B band Honey Bee & T- Bones. When we were making those albums in my good friend Mauri Nylund’s barn house in Vantaa, Finland, I got to meet some of the most talented musicians in Finland today. Ninni Poijärvi, Mika Kuokkanen, Masa Maijanen, Jarmo Nikku, Harri Ala-Kojola, Maarit&Sami Hurmerinta, Pepe Ahlqvist, Heikki Keskinen, Esa Niiva, Matti Lappalainen, Jay Kortehisto, Timo Pratskin, my little brother Lauri Valjakka just to mention a few of them. The albums were engineered, recorded, mixed and mastered by my good friend and former band leader Jimi Sumen, one of the greatest musicians in Finland ever. Recently I play with my old friends and band mates Juha Syrjäläinen, Jari Vepsäläinen, Pekka Suomi, my little brother Lauri and one of the best singer, song writer and harp player I have ever heard, Jyrki Tomminen. We make gigs every now and then and are planning to make an new album maybe later this year 2008. Those previous albums were made just for fun and to record few of my younghood favorite songs. This new is planned to content most our own material and maybe more roots kind. Well, we shall see...... Pics on the slideshow and MySpace Site are taken by myself, Juha Haikola,Pertti Rikkilä, Pekka Kokko, My wife Sari, my doughter Iida, Juha Partanen, Saara Pakarinen(the black/white pics) and Ville Voipio
