Freddie King was born Frederick Christian in Gilmer, Texas on September,3, 1934. He learned to play the guitar at age six when he was taught by his mother and brother. He enjoyed listening to Lightning Hopkins and Louis Jordan and he often tried to copy their musical style. In 1950 Freddie King and his family moved to Chicago. When he was 16 he would sneak into the Chicago clubs and listen to all the great Chicago bluesmen. Eventually Howlin Wolf took Freddie under his wing. During this time Freddie also jammmed with the likes of Eddie Taylor, Robert Lockwood Jr. and Little Walter to name a few.By 1952 he had gotten married and played music at night and worked in a steel mill during the day. Throughout his career Freddie King made recordings or many different record labels such as: Parrot, Federal, Atlantic and Shelter (to name a few).Freddie King's music has inspired lots of musicians and listeners for some time, artists like Eric Clapton, John Mayall, Jeff Beck, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Keith Richards, Ronnie Earl, Jerry Garcia, Kenny Wayne Sheperd and John Mayer to name a few.Freddie King passed in Dallas, Texas from a heart attack on December 28th 1976.Freddie King's most well known hits were Hide-a-way, Have you ever loved a woman and Going Down.
