Don't let my chronological age fool you...I've very much a kid at heart. Sometimes I think the old jingle "I don't wanna grow up, I'm a Toys R Us kid" was written about me.
I was born in Virginia, and I'm the baby of the family. (That explains why I'm so freakin' spoiled *wink wink*.) On my maternal grandfather's side of the family, we can trace the family tree back to Colonial times--I had a great great great someone-or-other who was a captain in the Revolutionary Army. On my father's side of the family, my great-grandparents all emigrated from Poland, making me only a third generation American on that side. It's almost like I'm a mini United Nations sometimes.
My family moved to California when I was 2 years old, so I don't remember much about Virginia at all. I grew up in the LA area, but since 1991 I've lived in Santa Maria. There are still a lot of people who don't know where Santa Maria is--we're roughly halfway between LA and San Francisco--but we became a somewhat infamous location a handful of years ago since this is where Michael Jackson's child molestation trial was held. Oh joy, was that ever fun, especially when he landed in our emergency room.
I followed my father into the aerospace and defense field, but when the bottom dropped out of that field in the early 90's and I was out of work for nearly a year, I decided that I needed a new career that had more portability and more of a future. Hop, skip, jump, that's how I became a nurse. It's a job that isn't always the most fun in the world, but it's a living, that's for sure.
I'm not married, never have been, and probably never will be. It's not that I haven't tried, but I just haven't had much luck. And right now, I'm much more comfortable living on my own, doing what I want when I want, not having to be concerned for anyone else except my cats, and just doing my own thing and being my own person.
And I'm also a geek, and damn proud to be one!!!
My babies...first Chewie:
Then there's Lily:
And never forget dear Flossie, who crossed the Rainbow Bridge earlier this year:
