Some Well-Known Bands on MySpace, 1960's to Present

About Me

Hi! Welcome to my page. Yes, this is still BlueGrass... the "gunslinger girl". (Not really. See "My Pics" and you'll understand.) Clothes are everything, aren't they? LOL. What I mean is that I've had a makeover recently... which certain people called "MySpace", who shall remain nameless, are interfering with mightily! LOL.Bear with me... While I try to fix whatever the heck it is, that they have done, or are doing. I'll be put back together whenever it's over. Meanwhile, there WILL be glitches! anomalies, and even paradoxes. Some of the left side has returned now, and the video players, but the url box is still AWOL.My address is: MySpace.com/BluegrassThePerfume in case anyone wanted to know. I'll do a short blog about the name and nickname above later, when things settle down. Now where was I? Ah yes...So the story is, I'm a Boomer Babe. (Just my term for all of us.) I've been into "pop music" since I was 7, which to me is anything that's on the "popular charts" or the radio - all inclusive. I still remember buying my first 45-single in 1957 at the corner drugstore - Danny & The Juniors' "Rock and Roll Is Here To Stay". I didn't even know what it was going to sound like, beforehand. But when I played it on my weird little "kid record-player", it was a whole lot better than "How Much Is That Doggy In The Window", which was in that era believe it or not, a big hit on the radio. So rock was elbowing its way in, when I first heard it, and nobody thought it would last very long or be very much of anything. I sure hoped it would last though, and to everyone's surprise, it did after all. But Danny's song-lyric was more of an assertion that he and a small number intended to hang onto rock regardless of it's success, than a foregone conclusion of fact at the time. I've been into it ever since, so I've seen quite a bit come and go. I was at the second Beatles' concert after NYC in 1964. I've never before or since, seen a stadium-full of teenage girls, all standing on the ARMS of seats that way! Who would've thought it was even possible, to go through a whole concert balanced like that, while yelling their brains out? But there had never been any other "arena" concerts before then, so who knew anything at that point? I'm not "up on" all aspects of music since then of course, and I'm not an "expert" and don't try to be, but I have the overview in my head. Somewhere. LOL.What I'm attempting to do with my page, is to "friend" the performers that I remember and can find, who are here on MySpace. Why? Why not, I guess. So that others can find some that they may be looking for too, a little easier. (See "All My Friends"). I don't have lots of personal people as friends, to wade through, since I don't use MySpace for keeping in touch with my "real life" friends. There are artists included that I like, right up to the present time, and I try to stick to official profiles as much as possible. The reason being - they're active. They're touring, or promoting current or past work. The CD covers to the left also include more artists who are not on MySpace (as far as I've been able to find out), and some who have passed away. Right now, I'm waiting on a lot of slow-moving add requests though, so that accounts for about 100 that will be trickling in.So things will keep changing here. Maybe I'll get into blogging for real, next. Meaning - actually writing something there, instead of on the front page as I have until now. By the way, if I'm confusing anyone as I was without realizing it before, or if there are questions, or comments - that's what the spaces provided for that, are there for. I love comments, as everyone here does.I've already met some really cool people here, and I'm looking forward to "bumping into" many more. I'm very glad to have met all who have come my way so far. To most of you, who have come here on your own initiative, rather than mine... thanks for taking the time to find me! For new bands especially, I can imagine how much effort that takes, so I appreciate it.For the rest of us "music consumers", I hope there will be something here to explore or to recall, for those who have the time and are so inclined.CFN (Chiao For Now), BlueGrass

My Interests

Life.

I'd like to meet:

My next friend.P.S. A NEW NOTE - PLEASE READ!Since I have nothing to ask of you on this page for myself... I'd appreciate it A LOT! if you have a minute to hear a song on the Maypole "widget" below. I've known the group's lead guitar player and principal songwriter, Demian Bell, since I was 16 and he was 17 - playing gigs in our city just as well or better than bands on the charts at the time, in the mid-to-late 60's. He's been a pro musician in the US and Europe ever since and has played with many notable groups, with more stories to tell than his page could hold.Several years ago it was discovered that after all this time, the band has a huge underground "cult-following" of diehard fans around the world, still actively collecting Maypole's first album called "The Real", which was made in 1971 before most of the technology used in music today was even thought of. (It's one of the first for instance, on which even a "wawa pedal" was used.) In response to this fan-interest, the album has just recently been reissued on cd and vinyl. Demian of course is still writing and playing currently as well, with a bunch more cd's in various "genres" of music - but with a blues-base common to all of it.If you're sympatico with the music, I'd appreciate it very much if you'd add Maypole as a friend. If you do, it would be nice if you'd mention that Blue referred you. The Maypole icon is in my "Top Friends".Thanks much! Blue ~~UPDATE! I noticed that many of you did give Maypole a listen, and also added Demian as a new friend... You're awesome! I appreciate you so much! I just finished changing the songs on the player below, to keep things interesting... Check out "Blue Feeling". Gotta love the guitar licks toward the end! "Dust My Blues" is a live recording from a major event at Satzvey Castle in Germany, just last week. Hope you like the new additions.

Music:

60's British Invasion, Soul, Psychedelic, Classic Rock, Blues, New Wave, Indie... Latin, Celtic, Reggae, Cajun... let's not forget Bluegrass... Country, Folk, some Gospel, some Classical, some Swing, even Show Tunes, 50's Rock, Lounge Crooners, oh just about everything... except for what's abstract, or discordant, or venomous - in other words, annoying.

Movies:

Those that seem like they might've had a writer involved.

Television:

Background noise. (Except for "Gilmore Girls" especially in earlier seasons; and the man who I'd imagine to be the best date of all-time - Craig Ferguson.)

Books:

A ton in the past, but not much anymore.

Heroes:

Aren't we all?

Passing thought for the day...
