Rose Bowl Michigan vs. USC 2003
Yeah, we lost, but we were there and so was I! :-)
I'm a Michigan fan... so bite me! LOL I'm a radio wench at heart though! Yep... there it is, all wrapped up in 4 words. I've been around radio since I was 14... Which is about 10 years ago as far as you know! *laugh / wink* (AND I have an 18 year old daughter... figure THAT one out! LOL) O.K., so it was a little more than 10 years ago... O.K.! A LOT more! But needless to say, the music industry is all I know and I love it. From Detroit, to Saginaw to Ann Arbor, Michigan. Fresno, California, Defiance, Ohio and now Nashville, Tennessee... I've done many other things in this industry and I have a great grasp of the industry in its entirety... but the on air portion of radio is what I like best. Specifically... MORNING radio. I've always worked best at putting bits and ideas together, writing parodies, scripts, punch lines and have been abused by many a Morning host from being turned into a human rice crispy treat, being made to walk naked through a town and duck taped to a phone poll. Entertaining the masses is a wonderful job and getting a smile out of someone brightens my day!
The other side of me is the comedy side. I submit comedic bits, lines, Phone topic ideas (or whatever comes to mind) for a Show Prep Sheet published by Dr Don in Detroit at WYCD. I was working on the sheet one day when Detroit's Kevin O'Neill (WNIC) said to me "Andie get your head out of your ass!" No, he didn't... but I'm sure he would have had I stayed in Detroit longer! LOL He DID ask me why I was writing for other people and not performing comedy myself... Kevin is a stand-up himself and used to open for Tim Allen on occasion. So I started writing bits for live performances. I've done a few since then... but I really just like doing it for fun so I don't actually BOOK anything. I usually just end up performing impromptu stuff. What I really love about comedy is (like producing morning shows) is coming up with off the wall stuff that makes you go "What? Did she REALLY just say that??". I love to laugh and make other people laugh. Read my blogs and see what you think...
The third, but NUMBER 1 aspect of me is my daughter. I don't know where I would be without her. She truly IS my hero and the best kid a single parent could ask for. Sure we have our moments, but in the end she's great! She just turned 18 and after graduation she will be going into the Air Force. I couldn't be more proud!
Added Note: I'm asked a lot what advice I could give to all the frustrated up and coming younger generation wanting to get into radio. I'm gonna quote Partick Thomas, a good friend here in Nashville and Producer for Big D & Bubba. "Don't sit around griping about how bad things are. Accept the technology and the low budgets and all the things that people constantly whine about and DO THE BEST YOU CAN DO WITH WHAT YOU HAVE! "(see Patrick's Article )
And to add from me... "It is what it is. Its not gonna change because you complain. That only makes the rest of us miserable listening to you. Love what you do and you'll never work a day in your life!"
Bottom line is this... I almost lost my life in the early part of 2007. I have another chance and now truly believe that you have to laugh about everything and LIVE FOR TODAY, for this moment, RIGHT NOW because in a flash it could be over!
WHO I'D LOVE TO MEET!
Positive people able to see that life will send up roadblocks, we just have to learn to duck and move on and not dwell on the negitave. Radio, music, comedy, entertainment industry... I love to talk shop! I would also like to make friends no matter who you are! Lets do some brainstorming, networking and drinks at the Tin Roof!! I look forward to meeting you!
