As mentioned previously, music music music music. I like going to "hangouts" like little ethnic restaurants, coffee shops, galleries, or just anywhere quiet where a shared conversation doesn't have to reach the approximate decibel level of a jackhammer. Movies are a pleasant diversion once in a while, a competitive game of softball is always welcome, and the occasional foray into the local poker room at one of our fine gaming establishments is a good thing. More than all this, though, is my love for my niece and nephews. They rock!
Hey, I'm fairly easy to get along with, and I like meeting people with like interests. Music is very important to me; I'm pretty much good with all kinds except for modern country and rap, but I have respect for those as well. The local music scene here in Kansas City is very much alive and well, and I try to get out and support artists as much as I can, great bands and musicians like Doris Henson, Anvil Chorus, Roman Numerals, The Wilders, Kasey Rausch, TJ Dovebelly, namelessnumberheadman, The Litigators, Alacartoona, and lots of others. So, basically, if you like music and art, that's a good starting point.
Myspace Layouts
hmmmmmmmmm ... I don't know if there's enough space here to list all of my musical leanings. A bunch. Radiohead, California Guitar Trio, Zero 7, Sia, The White Stripes, The Black Keys, Joni Mitchell, John Coltrane, Big Joe Turner, Miles Davis, Johann Sebastian Bach, King's X, Cato Salsa Experience, The Ugly Beats, Toad the Wet Sprocket, Bob Marley, Beck, The Aqua Velvets, The Paybacks, Ray Charles, The Beatles, The Who, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Sigur Ros, The Moaners, Cato Salsa Experience ... let's leave it at that and we can go into more specific detail later.
"Airplane!" is the funniest thing to hit the big screen ... wait, I'm starting to sound like Michael Medved of Sneak Previews. I do think that "Airplane!" is one of the great comedies, along with "Duck Soup", "Waiting for Guffman", and "Silence of the Lambs" - what a laugh riot THAT was! John Malkovich is one of America's great actors; if you haven't seen him in "Shadow of the Vampire", shame on you. Indie movies are usually quite good ("American Movie", "Brassed Off"), but I'm also a sucker for stuff that doesn't exactly require much cerebral involvement ("Rocky Horror Picture Show", "Pee-Wee's Big Adventure").
"24" is about my only small-screen obsession; other than that, the occasional views of CNN or ESPN or the Weather Channel or VH1 ... or Univision if I want to see women in bikinis year-round.
Books ... books ... yeah, the word looks familiar ... kind of rectangly-lookin' things? Lots of paper inside with various squiggles that combine to form letters, words, sentences, paragraphs, and chapters? That does ring a bell ... my literary prowess is pretty limited; right now I'm working on "Kansas City Jazz: from Ragtime to Bebop", which is very engrossing and detailed. If you're a music junkie like me, you should try it.
... is one of my favorite David Bowie songs.
