About Me

Airborne BIO (Rock Detector):

Denver based AIRBORNE had only rehearsed for a mere five days before they found themselves auditioning for record labels, resulting in a debut release on the Columbia label just six months later. Beau Hill had previously been an integral part of Dallas outfit HEAVEN AND EARTH, who he had begun his career with in 1969. He parted company with the group six years later, eschewing life on the road to learn the tricks of the trade in the recording studio. Hill relocated to Denver and producing all manner of local talent, including a very young KIP WINGER and even Jon Keyworth - a fullback with NFL team the Denver Broncos!
With a solo artist dreams in his head Beau recorded demos in his spare time and the tapes caught the ears of long-time friend Keith Olsen, who persuaded Hill to assemble a band with his help. Whilst guitarists David Zychek, of THE GROOVE KINGS, and Larry Stewart, old acquaintances of Hill, were recruited from other groups, Olsen tapped drummer Mike Baird and bassist John Pierce from the lucrative Los Angeles session circuit.

The Keith Olsen co-produced, eponymously titled debut album was destined to be AIRBORNE's sole produce as they were seemingly dropped by Columbia and attempts to sign to another label were unsuccessful.

David Zychek worked with ex-URIAH HEEP man KEN HENSLEY during 1984. Subsequent sessions in Los Angeles including studio spots with STEVE MILLER and EDDIE MONEY. In 1989 he would formulate THE ZYCHEK BAND, scoring an unfortunately unfruitful development deal with BMG Records. Zychek enrolled into the ranks of NIGHT RANGER in 1994, working on the album 'Feeding Off The Mojo'.

Baird and Pierce returned to session work, whilst Hill moved to New York where he joined SPIDER, replacing keyboard player HOLLY KNIGHT. The band had changed their name to SHANGHAI before releasing the album Hill recorded with them. After the group split Hill went on to become one of the most in demand Rock producers of the Eighties. Baird was equally sought after as a session drummer, playing a memorable role touring with JOURNEY on the back of ‘Raised On Radio’. Baird had also laid down drums for IRONHORSE and ANIMOTION.

Archive tapes entitled 'The Dig' surfaced through the Song Haus label in 2002. David Zychek marked a return in 2004 with his new outfit DEAD HEART BEATING. Zychek also featured on PHIL VINCENT's 'Secrets' album, CIRCULAR LOGIK and the DIVING FOR PEARLS opus 'Texas' in 2005.
