Audio Obsessive...

About Me

You are now marked on my profile visitor map!
Where to start... I'm a twin & a Yorkshireman. My brother and i have been interested in electronic music from an early age - due largely to being brought up in a very musical environment thanks to our Father, Uncle and Cousin who fed us on a music diet of Kraftwerk, Jarre, Disco, Electro & proto-house.I started messing around with tape recorders and had my first Hi-Fi before i was into double figures. I'm an obsessive collector of music and audio equipment. As a grown-up (?) i have amassed over a ton of vinyl, a 6k soundsystem and 2k lighting rig....not to mention miles & miles of cables, adapters and associated gagets. As obsessions go it's not that unhealthy i suppose.
I started DJing in late 1990 and over the years i've played all over the UK and also covered a fair part of Eastern Europe too. I also dabble in production and i've recently had a remix released by Atlantic Records in Eastern Europe. I occasionally hire out my rig to pay for new equipment, my sound engineering skills are developing quite nicely.
Currently i'm a resident, promoter, organiser & webmaster for Trailer Trash, which we started in 2002 at the New Beehive in Bradford before moving to the Mill around the corner in 2003. We put on indoor and outdoor events...check out our website for more info...

Before Trailer Trash my brother and i put on parties for approx 12 years under the name Bassquake. We had some great nights at the Trades Club (Hebden Bridge) during the early nineties (there are some old flyers for these events in my photo galleries)
I live with my cat Sidney and my fiance Kim and i'm a very very lucky man because she's a very special lady. Not only is she beautiful, but she also has the patience of a saint and is currently learning the 'craft' (of DJing).
Finally, i've just completed a Masters Degree in Criminology & Criminal Justice at UCLAN.
thanks for stopping by...d:-)Peeth! d;-)

Music:

I have a very very wide range of tastes from funk, jazz and disco to various downtempo styles including hip-hop (although not mickey-mouse nursery school 'R&B' shite). I collect old funk & disco records and i'm always up for a good quality re-edit of an old classic or unknown gem.
I'm also a collector of Fila Brazillia, Pork and 23 records output. Not to mention Grand Central Records, Boca 45, Catskills, Ninja Tune, Mo Wax, Freestyle, Warp etcIn addition, i love Johnny Cash, Red Hot Chili Peppers and a fair bit of classical & eastern european music too.
When im Disc Jockying, i sometimes get to play the above styles - depends where/when i'm playing. But more often than not i play 'tech-funk' - which is a blend of tech-house, breaks, minimal, prog and acid house. This includes artists such as: Elite Force, Meat Katie, Dylan Rhymes, Alex Metric, 10 Rapid, Koma & Bones, Trentmoller, Dave Spoon, Cirez D, D Ramirez, Switch, Marc Romboy, Sebastian Leger, Platinum Mules, King Roc, Thomas Schumacher, Circuit Breaker, Lutzenkirchen, Santos, Tony Thomas, Kid Blue, JHZ, Stanton Warriors, Levon Vincent, SLG, Kurd Maverick, Evil 9, Stone Lions, Paul Karkbren, Audiojack, Mike Monday, Deepgroove, Adam F, Vandal, Christian J, Booka Shade, M.A.N.D.Y, Force Mass Motion, Blende, Jaimie Fanatic, Miles Dyson, 30Hz, Si Begg, Sam Hell, McCurry & Cole, Dubfire, Rob Reng, Blatta & Inesha, Alex Dolby, Malente, Aston Shuffle, Richard Dinsdale, Bassbin Twins, Rogue Element, Unique 3, Simpleton, Baobinga & ID, Paul Woolford, AMB, BSOD, Burnski, DJ Fist, Dopamine, Riva Starr, Zimbardo, Dusty Kid, Worthy, SuperMayer, SpeakerJunk, Zodiac Cartel, Dopamine, Body Snatchers, Pig & Danand many many more
If you would like to hear what i sound like then you can download a few live mixes that i've uploaded onto the Trailer Trash website.

Movies:

Not really that keen on films - can't keep still long enough to watch one. But enjoy spaghetti westerns - particularly the soundtracks. One of my faves is King of Comedy & i also like Tron - which is a bloody Disney film!! Other favourites include Das Boot, American Beauty, Rita Sue & Bob too, Spinal Tap, Withnail & I, Blazing Saddles and a few others that i can't remember at the moment. (as you can probably tell, i don't really like or watch new films...)

Television:

The idiot box!!!
I have serious issues with TV. Most of it is shite for starters. But perhaps more sinister is the way in which it brainwashes people and stifles their creativity & ambition. I suspect that the internet will kill TV and bring to an end its thankfully short lived hegemony over the lives of millions. Told you i had issues with TV! I prefer BBC Radio 4 which throbs gently from the 5 radios secreted around the house - but i don't like the Archers, it's just another 'soap' after all.
I enjoy Nathan Barley, Brass Eye, Time Trumpet, Ray Mears Extreme Survival, Peep Show, The Day Today, Screenwipe, Mighty Boosh, Top Gear, Curb Your Enthusiasm and a few other very select tv programmes. Fave series is prob the World at War - which is the best thing ITV ever made. Here's a clip of staggering cynicism from Charlie Brooker's 'Screen Wipe' that makes me laugh..."

Books:

As i worked in a bookshop over a three year period, i have quite a lot of books. I had to read a lot while studying(philosophy, penology, political theory, govt reports, social theory). I'm a big fan of Marx, Gramsci, Poulanztas, Levinas, Engels, Chomsky - all good lefty stuff. I also have a passing interest in Foucault but it passed pretty quickly! My fave academic authors are Phil Scraton, Joe Sim, Kathryn Chadwick, Paul Gordon and Stuart Hall.
My special area of academic interest is policing, the state & social control. I'm currently considering the viability of undertaking a PHd - but it's early days yet!Other areas of interest are the Eastern Front of the Second World War. The Battle Of Kursk, Seige of Leningrad, Stalingrad, Kiev fascinate me due to the hardship and tactical considerations involved in such a large-scale and world changing event.

Heroes:

Check my friends out - they're the best!
What is a hero though? Someone you admire i suppose... so here goes
Famous people - i quite like George Galloway. I know some people hate him - but i find myself in agreement with him on so many issues. I try and overlook the whole big brother thing where he was made to look stupid by Channel 4.
Stevie Wonder is my all time musical hero.
Just such a talented guy - although he's obviously retired from the cutting edge nowadays.
I've also got to mention the crew that record on 23 Records (formerly PORK recordings R.I.P.) Baby Mammoth, Heights of Abraham, Solid Doctor and the rest. Their music is just fantastic. I never get bored of their stuff. At present i have 36 CDS & over 100 Vinyl releases from these guys. I can't get enough of their tunes - especially when i'm writing!
Obviously my twin brother Martin is also a her to me, he's showed me the way a few times at crucial stages in my development. Like most people, i believe that my Mum is a hero too, raising twins is no easy task - so i gotta mention her in this section.
More generally i also admire anyone who is using their time creatively for positive ends.
Finally, i'd like to thank Tom the creator of Myspace.Phew!
