About Me

The Historic Croft House sits as the centerpiece of the Grassmere Historic Farm, and is located at the Nashville Zoo at Grassmere, in Nashville, Tennessee. Built in 1810, this historic house museum welcomes visitors seasonally to the Grassmere Historic Farm area of the zoo. The house was home to five generations of one family, survived the Civil War and the Battle of Nashville / Peach Orchard Hill unscathed, and stands today due to the foresight of its last two owners, Margaret and Elise Croft. The Croft sisters deeded the land to be kept commercially undeveloped, and to remain a "nature study center" for the citizens and children of Nashville. Along with their home, the sisters donated all their belongings, many of which are now on display inside the house. The 180-acre property, now owned by the city of Nashville, has been managed by the Nashville Zoo since December 1996. The Croft Home is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, underwent an extensive restoration in 1998, and was opened to the public for tours. Today, tours are generally given weekends during the spring and fall, and daily during the summer. We would like to invite you to visit the Nashville Zoo and Grassmere Historic Farm, and tour the Historic Croft Home.Visit the Nashville Zoo website to learn more at www.nashvillezoo.org
