Wake up - the earth needs you!!!

I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

I was born and raised on a farm near Pittsburgh, PA. We lived off the land and only went to the grocery store for those items that we could not harvest. At the time, I didn't quite grasp the important lessons that I was being taught - I DO NOW! At the early age of 18 I moved away from home. At 21 I got married. For 9 years I ran my own farm (cattle, horse, land, etc...)- yes I did it all - but nothing really different than what I did growing up. In 1997 that all changed.
After what seems like five long years, we finally move back to the city at the end of April 2008. We are now on our second home - hopefully our last, I LOVE IT here! I am married to the most wonderful woman. We met through a personal ad on the internet in 2001. Her name is Lily. We wrote to one another for several weeks, until we both had a good comfort level that we weren't playing games, then decided to meet. It was one of those moments! My heart was swept away. Lily is an inspiration, amazingly funny, witty, beautiful, smart, artistic, and a truly wonderful caring woman. I'd be totally lost with out her. Mere words can not truly express just how I feel. We traveled to Toronto in 2004 to get married. It's a good feeling to be LEGAL in Canada. I've been on quite a wonderful journey in my lifetime. I would repeat every minute of my roller-coaster past (good and bad) just to be where I am today!
Throughout my years, I've always held close to my heart that the earth should be cared for with kindness and gentleness. As I grow older it's become so ingrained that every decision that I make is always based on the environmental impact that it has. I'm starting to find myself, while out walking my dogs, picking up items left by the curb that are still in good shape that can be donated to the local "construction" recycle center. I'm absolutely amazed that people throw away useful items just because they are done with them, or that people continue to use dangerous chemicals to clean their homes. Okay - that is only a few parts of my soapbox, but I will continue to get on my soapbox if there is a chance of someone listening to me. WE have to stop wasting and start caring about the earth, or our future generations will have no earth to care for.
If you want to know anything else... ask - I'm an open book and I'm not shy. Besides, if I don't put everything here - it will give us something to talk about. ;)
"Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming...'Wow! What a ride!"

My Interests

My hobbies: green living -we have completely swapped out our lights to compacts - we've also swapped out most - heading towards 100% for cleaning supplies. Here is my philosophy, it doesn't matter who you buy from - just get away from the chemicals and switch to biodegradable.

I also enjoy walking, biking, home improvements, traveling, arts, reading, gardening, movies, watching sunsets and walking/sitting on the beach (nothing grounds me more - someday wish to live closer). I especially like good conversation over dinner and wine.

..

I'd like to meet:

Every person that comes and goes in my life is a gift.

There are a few famous people I'd love to have tea with: Emma Thompson, Barbra Streisand, Olympia Dukakis, Karina Lombard, and Loreena McKennitt.

I very much like to meet other "green and open minded" folks. I have hopes that we can turn things around.

On the flip side, I'd like to have the opportunity to talk and visit with my grandmother whom I lost when I was 13.

Music:

I'm a lover of New Age and thought inspiring music, example... Sarah Brightman, Glen Gabrial, Clannad, David Arkenstone, Enya, Kitaro, Jace Vek, Persephone's Dream (-- local, very worth checking out) ... and many more. I'm not limited to this type of music, I appreciate and like something of all genres. ..

Movies:

I have a bit of a hearing impairment, in order to really understand all of the spoken words, I wait for them to come out on video. ..

Television:

Give me the OVTV, History, Fine Living, DIY, Food, Logo, Science Channel, Showtime, Bravo, and Travel I'm pretty much set. ..

Books:

Love them! My taste is rather eclectic at the moment. My current read is "Welcome to the world baby girl". ..

Heroes:

Everyone has a piece of hero in them. I want to hear about everyones journey.
