About Me

Glen Gabriel has been involved in the world of music since very early age. When Glen was born, his father (Anders Jansson) was managing some of the most famous artists in Sweden such as Per Gessle. At the age of 7 Glen had already met the Swedish winners in the Eurovision Song Contest 6 years in a row, all part of the Management company owned by his father. As a child, Glen took lessons from Carola Häggkvist's singing teacher. He then met with pianist Per-Erik Hallin (the only Swede who ever toured with Elvis Presley) which advised Glen in music. From having met many artists in his childhood including the family friend and world famous artist Chick Corea, it was only natural Glen wanted to become an artist himself.Glen was always very fascinated of what he could learn from these very great and talented artists. One Christmas he got to meet with Astrid Lindgren in her home (the fantastic Swedish children's book author and screenwriter who have written many books including the Pippi Long-stockings books). Glen became good friends with Astrid upon where she gave him specially signed books each time they met.One thing Glen learned from these fantastic artists was the simplicity of art and music. He understood the importance of creating and to never be bound by any rules in doing so.Between the age of 7 and 8, Glen started teaching himself to play the piano and his method was quite simple: he played by ear. After having tried piano lessons, which didn't work out for him, Glen decided he would not doing anything else than just performing the music he had in his head. The logic was he wanted to create something new. After having ventured into new styles and ways of thinking Glen took on learning the traditional way of reading and writing music and is today classically trained. He felt this was necessary as it is better knowing how to do something and DECIDE if you want to do it rather than not doing something because you “don’t know how”.While Glen has always had a vast array of interests and hobbies such as sports, acting, drawing, painting, dancing, writing and filmmaking, his strongest point was his music. From 1990-2005 Glen Gabriel devoted most of his time to study, work and traveling and didn't spend much time composing. His main attention was to learn and listen to other music styles that suited him. He has travelled around the world including all main countries of Europe, South Africa and some major cities in the USA such as Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Miami, New York and Washington DC.Glen's taste in music varies between film music to electronica, 70s funk and disco, hard rock, drum n bass, big beat, breakbeat, classical, hip hop and many other styles. In Glen's opinion any song can be good as long as they tell a story.Today Glen Gabriel has released 2 albums with his own music, "Music in Chronological Order" and "My World". He has created music for independent films and worked on jingles for many major commercials.Glen is also very active in his project together with his best friend Mille Trygg-Wiberg in the band GLIM, which is a mixture of electronica and classical. "I love this project as I learn new styles from my fantastic friend and it is the time where I can think out of the box of film music" says Glen.Another specialty of Glen is his ability to collaborate with people and other styles of music, including hard rock. He has actively been contributing with his orchestrations to the upcoming solo project from the vocalist, songwriter and producer Tony Harnell, best known for his work with the hard rock band TNT. Glen has also been collaborating with the fantastic experimental hard rock artist Lizette from the band Lizette &.Amongst these projects, Glen is working with Bia (his wife) on music for poetry. This is done by Glen reading the fantastic poetry of Bia and then composes songs that fit those poems. Many more projects are ongoing at the moment and will be released as they complete. You can purchase the music on CD Baby or by clicking on the buttons here!MORE SITES YOU CAN FIND GLEN GABRIEL'S MUSICGLIM Glen Gabriel.com G @ Myspace.com

My Interests

Music:

Band Members: As Glen Gabriel himself put it: "It's only me... G. I am working on different projects whereas one is called GLIM. It is on my top friends list if you want to listen. There you will find me working with the FANTASTIC Mille. Feel free to check it out. We will get more songs onto there, promise. Then I am working with the fantastic(!!) Bia and her poems. Right now the project is called Music & Poetry but that is subject to possible change. You are able to see her fantastic work by just clicking: Bia or G ."
Influences: "I have A LOT of influences. But when growing up, there was A LOT of movies that I was watching and I just couldn't help but LOVING the music! I was kinda sick and tired of hearing lyrics and the same ones over and over. So I felt that "hey! Here is some music with NO lyrics"."Therefore, my influences are: John Williams, James Horner, Jerry Goldsmith, James Newton Howard, Howard Shore, John Ottman, Danny Elfman, Hans Zimmer, Mike Oldfield, The Prodigy, Chemical Brothers, Fatboy Slim, Chrystal Method, Rage Against the Machine... With many others. The order that I gave above has NOTHING to do with preference but was just the order it came to mind.""So there you have my music influences. Thanks a million for checking my music out and I really hope you enjoy it all. Obviously I will never make the same type of music as my great influences but thanks to them I can make music."
Sounds Like: "My music sounds like my own. I guess it has this film music kind of taste. Many says that it is relaxing, others say it is ambient and people have even said it is haunting. While I am definitely into composing music for movies, I want to continue getting this music out on radio and heard by everyone. Pop, soul, rap, rock, funk, techno, electro and country (etc., etc.) isn't the ONLY music that you should hear from the radio. I consider film type of music and just instrumental (not only classic) should be on the radio too. I don't know why it hasn't been, but if you really look at it, that is probably the MOST listened to music in the world today. I don't think there is a single soul that HASN'T watched a movie today.Well, there you go. Therefore the music should be featured out there on radio too! That is what I want to accomplish here as well."
