I was born in a crossfire hurricane. Unfortunately after that, everything slowed down to a crawl. But it's all right.
I'm a lot like Will from Good Will Hunting, well, aside from the brutal upbringing ... the violence ... the youthful good looks ... the colorful friends ... and the genius. Come to think of it, I'm really not really all that much like Will Hunting.
I'm definitely a reader like Will though. I read everything, cereal boxes, the owners manual to my car, the instructions on my shampoo bottle (definite repeat reading), and actual books. I also have my dork tendencies, and I still love my comic books. Right now, I'm deep into the Foxfire series, Godel, Escher, Bach, and Will Eisner's Spirit Archives.
I try to read books that I tried to avoid as a high school student. I love classic American works like Faulkner, Hemmingway, and Fitzgerald. Would you believe that the Great Books actually happen to be great? Start with those, and you'll learn what new books are cut from that same cloth.
I don't like to call myself a Martial Artist, but I have trained in Jeet Kune Do, Kali, and Muay Thai. I've worked on my boxing for a couple of years, and I'm also enrolled in a very good Brazilian Jiu Jitsu school, which means that when I'm not injured, I'm getting my butt kicked by the best fighters in the Chicago area. I lift weights, and I try to run, but I lose interest in running really quickly so I have to figure out creative ways to get my cardio going.
I'm defined as much by my dislikes as my likes. I don't care about Reality TV, weak modern R&B music, who is having sex with whom, who's gay and who's not, and anything that has nothing to do with me.
I believe strongly in the old Code of the West. If it doesn't affect you, leave it alone.
To steal from Crash Davis in Bull Durham: I believe in Superman. I believe in the Chicago White Sox. I believe in four seasons. I believe in exercise. I really do believe that Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone. I believe combat sports are the purest physical challenge there is. I believe in in a night spent home watching fights leaves you better off than a night spent drinking. I believe in books. I believe that the better looking the singer is the worse the music is. I believe in blondes, brunettes, and redheads. I believe in the United States, even though it's inconvenient right now. I believe that Synchronized Swimming, Rythmic Gymnastics, Curling, the Biathlon, and Figure Skating should not be Olympic Sports, and I believe that I've gone on far too long.
