JEMM Entertainment is a Booking and Promotions Company, based out of Memphis, Tennessee, specializing in anything and everything music...just like our slogan states, Just Everything Memphis Music. JEMM came to be on April 14, 2005 when two college students, Jennifer McCord and Evanthia Mataragas, looked at the music scene in Memphis and noticed it was missing a key component of music, the acoustic market. Evanthia and Jennifer started off by creating the Songwriter's Showcase; an event similar to Nashville's Songwriter's In the Round. The show was a huge success and the rest has simply been a high-speed evolution, an evolution that has taken this company many places never imagined for a young company in this ever-changing music industry.
JEMM primarily works within the Independent Music Industry but will take on any challenge presented by any person with proper notice. JEMM's history thus far includes working with artists from all over the United States of all genres of music. Just to name a few: Al Kapone, Roger Mexico, Tony Lucca, Kim Richardson, Jason Eskridge, AutoDefe, Spout, Susan Marshall, Gentry Morris, The JTB, Emily Shea, The Massacoustics, SJ Tucker, The Penny Royals, and Nova. In the past, JEMM Entertainment has also collaborated with other companies to offer amazing events for music lovers everywhere. These companies include Universal Music Group, Pinnacle Innovative Marketing and Promotions, Vexar Entertainment, Wide Open Productions, Wild Storm Productions, Blue Tint Entertainment, Mustang Agency, Phenomenal Representation, A to Z Motorsports, The Holy Hip Hop Commission of Memphis, the National Association of Black Female Executives of Music and Entertainment (NABFEME) and the Music and Entertainment Industry Student Association (MEISA).
JEMM Entertainment dips into the creative side of promotion including:
- Building eye-catching press kits
- Designing flyers to get people to your shows
- Street Team formation
- Creative promotional displays at local retailers
- Display of your POP materials at JEMM Entertainment shows
... Along with other means of getting the artist's name out there to the public. You think it; we can probably pull it off, and if we cannot we always know someone else who can. This involves everything from website designers, graphic designers, sign/banner creators and more.
Every year JEMM Entertainment puts on a few major, large-scale shows, along with all the usual musical tasks performed. One of the shows is the famous Yankee Invasion. The Yankee Invasion occurs every July and showcases talent from all over the United States that was born above the Mason-Dixon Line. Memphis has quite a few Yankees, but JEMM makes sure to bring in acts from all over the United States as well. One of the main purposes of this show is to fuse local Memphis musicians with musicians unfamiliar with the Memphis Music Scene. This idea makes Yankee Invasion not only a priceless performance opportunity, but also a surreal chance to network with industry professionals from all over the country. The genre of the show tends to be extremely eclectic but smooth flowing from one act to another. With each year the show grows in size and media coverage. It is an ideal event for any artist trying to break into the Memphis scene.
A new event JEMM Entertainment plans on beginning this year, in October, is a benefit concert for the charity of JEMM Entertainment's choice. This year we will be putting on a benefit for Breast Cancer Research during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. JEMM wants to reach out to the people in this world who are in need; whether it is medical, financial, physical or emotional, JEMM plans on helping. JEMM will pick one charity to donate all proceeds to, and will receive local and national sponsorships in order to raise funds also. JEMM will be having an auction of various objects. Some of the items that could possibly be auctioned off include autographed goodies, studio time, music, and more. All proceeds from the auction will also go to the chosen charity.
Along with the two above shows happenings, JEMM will reminisce with its roots every year. The Ultimate Songwriter's Showcase will occur every year in January. The show is to not only allow JEMM to touch base with its beginning, but it is also a way to remind the world of the genius that is the Singer/Songwriter; a genre that goes underappreciated too often.
