I always loved the Scriptural basis of all of Bob Hartman's songs, ever since he was my counselor at church camp when I was a kid. Nancy Honeytree's melodic creativity and nurturing lyrics have been a blessing to me over the years, right from the time she strolled barefoot onto the stage for an evening concert at Calvary Temple in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Bryan Duncan has one of the premiere voices in this industry, as does Bob Carlisle. PFR's vocal blend often reminded me of The Beatles and Queen. One of the greatest pop voices ever is Ron Dante, who recorded smash hits as the voice of The Archies, produced all of Barry Manilow's big hit albums, and is still heard today all over radio and TV in national advertising jingles.
The raw energy of Three Dog Night with their special blend of vocals has been deeply ingrained, as has the combination of vocal talent and recording genius in the members of 10cc and Queen.
I've also been a fan of R&B, Soul, and good ol' rock & roll, and these influences in some way impact my own creativity. We are the sum of our experience to one degree or another. :)
Of course, the greatest influence in what I do, and the well-spring of all my creativity is my Savior, Jesus Christ. It is for Him that I do this, singing from my heart the message of God's love both to a fallen world and believers in their day-to-day struggles against the devil, the world, and their own sinful flesh.
Sounds Like: Lotsa different people. My songs are very diverse. You can hear influences from Three Dog Night, Styx, E.L.O., Alan Parsons, Queen, Pink Floyd, and the list could go on. I have varied musical interests, and they all find expression in my music, which is going to make me hard to categorize. My best guess is that I'd be classified as Adult Contemporary, which is fine with me. But there's a little something for everyone in my music!
