Memorial
.... to the memory of 'Big' Thomas Alexander, leader of 'The Alexanders', fore runner to The Roughcuts. Loving family man, accomplished drummer and Blues mentor, Big Thomas is credited with 'Diamond' Simon's nickname, a gift which out lasted his brief stay here, but lives on in the Bluesand in our memories. Rest in peace!
Diamond Simon's Soapbox
Stepping up to the soapbox, without necessarily being being political, but rather in defence of core humanitarian values, we must speak out against the tendency of power to corrupt absolutely! So heres to
Public Enemy 1 ... may he get just rewards ... just what on earth he was thinking when he set the wheels of genocide in motion?
Violence and destruction are raging in the Darfur region of western Sudan. Since February 2003,
government-sponsored Janjaweed militias have conducted a calculated campaign of slaughter, rape, starvation and displacement in Darfur resulting in
400,000 people dead and more than 2.5 million displaced from their homes. Many fled to camps which lack adequate food, shelter, sanitation, and health care. Congress recognized the situation in Darfur as "genocide." Darfur is
"near Hell on Earth," and has been declared the
worst humanitarian crisis in the world today.
