About Me

Malcolm Mandela Serrette has been directing and producing films, writing scripts and taking film classes for more than 10 years. He's about to truly take flight, his drive and passion more energizing than ever!
Malcolm has a lot of experience in his greatest passion: Documentary Production.
"MORE THAN MISCONDUCT"
Director/Producer: Desmond Serrette
Co-Writer, Cinematographer: Malcolm Serrette
This film examines the recent history of the police department in Prince Georges County, a county just outside Washington DC with a shocking number of unjustified murders of young minorities at the hand of the police department. Interviews include the state's attorney, mothers of unarmed young men slain by officers, US Marshalls, civil rights attorneys and more. (2004)
After the production of "More Than Misconduct," Malcolm moved to New York City and attended NYU Tisch School of the Arts, the premier film and television school in the country, to sharpen his skills in documentary production, and gained experience in producing fiction films, his second passion.
In the four years at NYU, Malcolm directed several documentaries and produced several short films.
"KULTURE: UNDERGROUND AND RISING"
Director/Producer: Malcolm Serrette
Executive Producer: Marco Williams
A 'day-in-the-life' style documentary following the New York City hip-hop MC, Shani Kulture. Kulture, a HOT 97 'Miss Jones in the Morning' radio personality with an extremely talented band, Planet Ubiquity (violin, drums, bass, and guitar players) maneuvers the music industry's influence towards "original-uniformity" in an effort to get his voice heard. (2007)
In 2007, Malcolm travelled to Havana, Cuba for 11 weeks with a educational visa provided by NYU.
"90 MILES FROM HOME"
Director/Producer: Malcolm Serrette
Executive Producer: Carlos De Jesus
This documentary short examines Cuban life as observed from an American perspective. During these 11 weeks, 1 year before Fidel Castro gave up his rule, the American media portrayals of Cuba are challenged when common preconceptions and assumptions face the reality.(2008 - Post-Production)
When Malcolm returned from Cuba, he sought to expand his horizons and experience by venturing in a new direction for a documentary then he would normally.
"FOOTBAG"
Director/Producer: Malcolm Serrette
Producer: Barrett Neimeth
Executive Producer: Marco Williams
This sports documentary short follows a passionate Footbag player who attempts to organize an internationally sanctioned Footbag tournament. His goal is to promote the 'sport,' as well as two of the top ranked Footbag players in the world. The struggle lies in the common conception that Footbag is only 'hackysack.' (2008 - Post-Production)
Malcolm also developed a passion for producing at NYU, outside of the documentaries. He's produced many fiction film shorts, too. Most recently, he's in post-production in producing the film short, "UNDERBELLY" (2008). It is being prepped for festival submission.
Malcolm is a director/producer, and strives to achieve great pieces of work in many different genres. He's directed several fiction film shorts, as well as music videos.
Malcolm has worked freelance with HBO films, MTV, The CW, Loki Films(Makers of 'Jesus Camp'), Apostle Pictures(Makers of 'Blow', 'Rescue Me'), Kismet Films(Positive Voices: Women an HIV) and Thinkfilm).
Malcolm has worked on making short skits filming or doing sound with celebrities including: Will Smith, Jessica Alba, Snoop Dogg, Cassidy, Wisin Y Yandel, the Orishas, and more. He's done assistant camera(AC) work for a Roy Jones Jr. training documentary, and travelled to Florida doing AC work with the oscar-nominated makers of Jesus Camp.
